Aunt Nancy PecH, ot Gem,
spent most of last week among
friends here. She is remarkably
smart for 8 lady of her age.
Mrs. Dennis Mellott had the
misfortune last Thursday morn
ing to fall and badly sprain and
fracture her wrist Dr. Palmer
was called and she is reported to
be getting along very nicely.
While splitting wood a few days
ago. D. Garland split his thumb
open and now carries his arm in
a sling.
Olive Hess of, Philadelphia, is
now visiting her uncle W. F. Hart
and family.
School opened here last Mon
day with thirty-one pupils.
Rev. Powers occupied the pul
pit in the Baptist church here
last Sunday evening.
Elder Funk went to Patterson
Creek, W. Va., last Friday to his
appointment for Saturday and
Sunday.
The meeting here last Sunday
was well attended; and, although
bunday was a wet day, the house
was crowded. A number of
strangers were in attendance
from West Virginia, and Dohora,
Pa. Elder BreUs is a very able
and instructive speaker.

Rev. J H. Barney delivered an
ablo sermon last Sunday morn
ing s,t Cedar Grovo church. At
the close of the service the Cedar
Grove puglists had ,a sparring
match, which afforded much
amusement to the young people
of the neighborhood.
Mrs. C. C. Spencer and two
daughters, of Phoenix, Md., who
have been visiting friends in this
vicinity for the past two weeks
have gone to Millstone, Md., to
spend some time with her par
ents, John McKee and wife be
fore returning home.
Mrs. M. C. Spencer is building
a very nice house which will be a
great improvement to her farm.
W, P. Yonker is the contractor.
George Wilson intends building
a largo house next spring. He
has already engaged the stone
mason to build the wall. Mr. Wil
son is selling a large tract of tim
ber to J. T. Bridges and Com
pany. Miss Minnie Dalbey left for
Allegheny City this morning,
where she expects to take a
course in a commercial college.
