Florida, foi target prac tice with our big guns. The new battleship, The Maine, arrived here this morning. We had Ad miral's inspection on the tirst of this month. He pronounced the ship in splendid condition, and siys we have the best ship in the navy. There will be a large west ern draft leave her when westrike the states. I have enlisted for four years, but I don't think there will be a western draft in uiiue. I like the sea too well. We have beautilul weather. Well, this is the day that President Koose velt takes his seat tor his second term this is his second enlist ment. I hope he will keep his j,'ood work up. There are 14 battleships, 5 cruisers and 5 torpedo boats here in the bay. There are some ru-! mors going that the U. S. S. Massachusetts will lead the nV4 to Europe. I wish 1 may have the pleasure in seeing the place. We expect to go back to the States as soon as tlie last gun is tired at Pensacolo, and then we will go back to old Philadelphia, and later on a hit of young officers and take them out for a cruise for about a month or two. There was one of our comrades, a sailor, killed yesterday, his body 'was taken up from the collier. He wit smashed till his body was black. His remains were buried in the Sailors graveyard at Saa J uan, Portoliica. He was a friend to every one that knew him. His name was Clarence Darlington Hammond. The navy is getting more and more like home to me everyday. Cuba is pretty hilly but a nice place. D. C. Gkakhakt. Dangers of Pneumonia. Miss ( i race expects to upend a few days with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Uixson at Crystal Springs. Mrs. Joshua Barton, who has been seriously ill for several weeks has about recovered. Foote and Mrs. Florence Sipes of Everett, were united in mar riage by Kev. Kennedy. On Saturday the bride and groom came to the latter's home in this place and in the evening men, women, boys, and girls turn ed out and made the welkin ring with an old time calithiimpian sercuade. Mr. Foote aud D. L. Barnett have routed a room in Everett where they will soon eugage in business. The people of this community regret to lose Mr. Foote as a citi zen for as a silversmith he cannot be excelled. Harry Spangler and wife, ot Pittsburg, have tired of the smoky place, and returned to the home of his parents. We welcome them back. Mrs. J. H. Meredith is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Mc Glathary in Altoona. Hon. S. P. Wishart and W. U. Baumgardner were in Everett on business last Thursday. The many friends ot Mrs. J. C. Kirk sympathize with her in her aflliction. She has been in Pitts burg two weeks under treatment; and in last letter from her, she could not say when she could come home. Prof. II. M. and Mrs. Grit'tith have been very sick for more than a week. Mr. Griffith has pleurisy and Mrs. Griffith a severe relapse from grippe. The Professor's ill ness causes a delay in the High school. Master Harry Schouck has been sick, but is improving now. We have just heard of two more marriages Kobert, son of George W. Swope, to a Miss Dotson, of Cypher, and Harvey Heckman to to a Miss Kidenour. John Snow, of liobinsonville, brought his'family to the home of his mother here and will in the near future move into one of W. L. Woodcock's houses. Are You Kngaxed ? Our teacher, Miss Mason, will close her school April 12th. We are sorry to see her leave. A policeman from Hancock spent a few days in the Cove re ceutly. He did uot tell us his business here.
