It is reported that some petty
thieving is going on in and near
New Grenada. Someone relieved
Geo. Black of eleven chickens in
one night; and husked 4 shocks
of John Thomas's corn. Wouldn't
have been so bad had it been only
husked; but the party who did
the husking took all for his share.
Many other chickens are disap
pearing in the uight time. It will
not cease until some one gets fil
led with shot.
Henry E, Rowe, of Knobsville,

Among the many friends sum

death of of Samuel Houp, we not
iced in particular a certain one,
Jacob Houp, who was at one time
an adopted son of Mr. and Mrs.
Houp. He drifted away in his
teens married and settled in
Pittsburg, Pa. He used to be a
school mate of the writer, and a
better hearted mate never lived
thau he; and by all appearances,
he is just as good a man. We
notice he is minus his left arm.
H is car-receiver at 42nd st.,
Pittsburg.
John Houck, and Charlie Sev
ille, teacher of No. 4, visited the
Seville home in McConnellsburg
last Saturday and Sunday.
Quite a real estate deal took
place during the past week. Al
ice McClain, postmistress of New
Grenada, and Richard Alloway,
who owned the Geo. H. McCoy
property, concluded to swop, and
a deal was made, and on Satur
day began moving to and fro, and
will finish on Thursday. The
post oflice will be in the McCoy
property and Richard and family
can rock on the porch of the Dave
K. McClain homestead. We trust
both parties are well suited in the
deal.
The post-ofnee at Hubelsville
was entered through a window
one night recently and pilfered.
Nothing much was stolen.

WHICH LADY WAS HIS WIFE.
A Little Turkish Legend Wherein Lies A Moral
For Many Wlvei.
A certain Turk, according to a
legend, was once married to a
veiled lady in white iu the pres
ence of the sultan. As soon as
the ceremony was concluded the
bride mysteriously disappeared.
The groom was led into an adjoin
ing room where stood twelve lad
ies all dressed In white, but with
out veils. "Choose from the
twelve," exclaimed the sovereign,
"her that is your bride."
As tne man had never seen her
face, the command bewildered
him. "If you make a mistake,"
added his majesty, "your life shall
pay the forfeit." The poor man
walked up aud down the row of
beauties, but he had nothing what
ever to aid his choice. "You have
only a minute left," cried the sul
tan in anger, "choose at once."
Ten of the ladies, he noticed,
gavehim nothing else than a stony
glare. One of them frowned, the
other smiled. "The frowning
one," he thought, "is my bride,
for she expresses her displeas
ure and impatience at my ignor
ance. "Mo, he said to himself,
"it must be the smiling one, for
she desires to invite, me to her."
After debating the subject in
his mind until his time was up he
boldly made a selection from the
two. He was successful. He had
regained his bride. Which was
she, the one who frowned or the
one who smiled ?

tried Foley's Kidney Cure. After
