his return ho took in a lecture on

School" given in Hopewell by Mr
Turner.
We trust every person in our
valley interested in Sunday
school work will attend the Con
vention to be held in Wells Valley
M. K church on Saturday. An
interesting program has been
prepared, and wo can have a
profitable time if wo all make an
etl'ort.

There was a good attendance
at Fairview Sunday school Sun
day afternoou, and at the preach
ing service which followed.

accident allowed his right baud

kept our farmers back from their
spring work. A few of them have
planted corn.
Miles Mellott has moved to his
lately purchased farm, and Aus
tin Lake lias moved into tho house
vacated by Mr. Mellott.
Measles are still in our com
munity. Mr. Seth Mellott is sawing for
Mr. John Uollenshead.
Morton's Point school closed
last Wednesday.

SUICIDE BY uANuiNQ.
Miss Jane Harris Found Dead at Her
Hume in Wells.
Miss Jane Harris committed
suicide by hanging at her home
in Wells Valley on Monday night
or Tuesday forenoon. Funeral
this afternoon at 4 o'clock. In
terment in the Presbyterian
graveyard in Wells Valley.
Miss Harris was an aged lady
of not very sound miud, who
lived alone in a story and a half
house about a quarter of a mile
west of tho Early home. During
tho past winter she has shown
evidence of greater mental de
rangement than usual screen
ing the windows and fastening
them tightly, keeping the door
locked, stayiug in bed much of
the time, and, it is said, she has
not had any liro in the house for
six weeks.
Her neighbors did all they could
to minister to her wants, especial
ly is this true ot the Earlys, who
were her near neighbors. Some
of the Early family were at Miss
tlarns's home Monday evening
and found her as usual. On Tues
day afternoon Mr. J. Foster Ear
ly went over. Be called to Miss
Harris from the outside of the
house, and as there was no re
sponse, and everything so quiet
he feared all was not right, aud
forced the door open. Not find
ing Miss Harris, he asceuded the
stairway aud was horrified to
tiud her iu a semi-sitting posture
a rope around her neck and fast
ened to a rafter, and life extinct.
Justice J. A. McDonough was
notified and an inquest held Tues
day afternoon.

Jacob Winegardner is having a
porch built to his house which
will add much to the appearance
as well as to the advantage.
Mrs. N. B. Henry is suffering
with grippe.
Mrs. M. Latdig has a tine lot of
homemade carpet for sale.
Some of our ladies and gentle
men ono Saturday night at the
festival dropped their pie and had
not the pleasure of eating it to
ffether. David Ashton aud wifo of Mad
deusville, were the guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Join A. Henry last Fri
day. After spending a few weeks
with her uncle, Linn Kesselring,
Miss Lillian Henry returned home
last Saturday.
.Miss Grace Huston and her
aunt Miss Ella Irwin intend leav
ing on the 10th for the western
states to visit friends.
May the 30th there will be a
"Beau Soup" as usual held ou
Clear Ridge.
H. T. Heeter and R J. Fields
brought a load of corn from the
Cove last Saturday.

The Gulf Christian church at
Conshohocken, Pa., has extended
a uuauimous call to Rev. S. L.
Baugher of Needmore, to become
their paster with parsonage and
everythingcompletu. Rev. Baugh
er has accepted tho call and will
begin his work there tho lirst
