handle all the business of the
state. But it must build at once
or leave the Goulds build.
The Gould-Stoddard oil people
are tumbling their Pennsylvania
stock on the market as fast as it
can be put out. They argue that
if the Pennsylvania elects to build
it will so tie the system up with
new stocks and bonds that the
stock will bo many years getting
back to present prices, whereas,
if President Cassatt resigns and
lets the Standard oil have control
the stock can be picked up on a
raid in the next few years.
LOOKS LIKE A BEAK ATTACK.
This is the secret of the mys
terious selling of the stock and of
the highly manipulative features
which makes it look like a bear
attack.
Asa preparation for the con-)
strur.tion of the new railroad, it
is believed the Goulds incorporat
ed about a year ago a company
called the Eastern Securities com
pany. Into this the stocks of the
new road and other Gould lines
east of the Mississippi river are
to be thrown.
Mr. Carnegie's money has been
openly behind the Goulds in their
advance ou Pittsburg. The furi
ous opposition made to that ad
vance by the Pennsylvania com
pany angered Mr. Carnegie still
further and made him willing
to join hands for the great new
railroad from Pittsburg to tide
water under Goulds auspices.
Strenuous times are expected
in Wall Street the next few
months.
"Pennsylvania" was the battle
cry of Standard Oil brokers in
the stock market yesterday, and
all through the session the fight
was hot.
The Pennsylvania made a fierce
blow at the Gould combination
some months ago by destroying
about J?j,000,DOO of Western Union
poles and wires along its right of
way.
Another blow was dealt yester
day by the company, this time
aimed at the Steel Trust through
tiin Pennsylvania Steel company,
which the road controls. A con
tract for steel rails was taken in
Mecca, Arabia, for $22.88 a ton,
delivered ou the ground. The
price of the rails in New York is
One of the most significant
moves made by the Goulds has
been to mark out the route of the
new road from the city line of
Philadelphia as far out toward
Pittsburg as West Chester, in
Chester county, a distance ot
about a hundred miles. Under
the guise of a trolley tine they
have actually bought the proper
ly or secured options for this
much. Within tho city they are
asking councils for a franchise to
operate, part of the route select
ed being in the sliaeof an elevat
ed structure over the very tracks
of the Pennsylvania railroad it
self. In preparation for taking con
trol of the Pennsylvania road, it
is suggested that men tried aud
truxtt'd by the Rockefellers are
planning to make their homes in
Pennsylvania. "Rockefeller's
Pioneers" these men aro called

Startling Evidence.
Fresh testimony in great uan-

faring Dr. King's New Discov

Are due to Indigestion. Nlnety-nlns of awry
one hundred people who hsve heart trouble
can remember when It was simple Indiges
tion. It is s aclentlllo fool that all cases of
heart disease, not orjanlo, are not only
traceable lo, but are the direct result of Indi
gestion. All food taken Into the lomach
which falls of perfect digestion ferments and
swsllj the stomach, pulling It up against the
heart. This interferes with the action of
