Edward V. Mellott of Belfast
township, was in town last week
on business. He says the dry
weather cut his buckwheat crop
short. , With favorable weather at
ti me of tilling, the crop would have
yielded three hundred bushels;
but, not filling, he had but one
hundred and thirty-two.

The huckleberry crop of Sny
der county in the season just
closed aggregated 15,000 bushels.
The shipment from Beufer, at the
foot of Shade Mountain, reached
about -i'JOO bushels, and that at
McClure almost 5000 bushels.
The price paid pickers was about
71 cents a quart.
The Pennsylvania Railroad has
planted at Newton Hamilton 15,
000 locust trees as an experiment
in growing tie timber. The trees
were planted 10 feet apart and
are making, so far, a tine growth
and requiring very little atten
tion. It is estimated that it will
require about 15 years for acquir
ing suitable size for tie timber.
One of Dwight Thompson's
porkers that he had in the pen
for his winter's meat, died the
other day. This makes the sec
'oud one Dwight has lost recently.
That is a kind of trouble that nev
er gets into a printer's home, for
