Sixty-second Mile Post.
There was a pleasant little gath
ering of the family and friends
in the home of T. J. Thompson,
Wednesday of last week, to cele
brate the sixty-second anniver
sary of Mr. Thompson's birth.
On account of his long contin
ued illness, this is the first time
he has been able to leave his room
and walk down stairs to the din
ing room to meet with his family
around their table, since last
May. It was a day of joy and
thanksgiving unto God.

ernor ; James Nolan, of Reading,
the candidate for secretary of in
ternal affairs ; Hon. Wm. T. Crea
sy, state chairman ; Hou. John S.
Rilliug, chairman of auxiliary
committee, and Hou. John H.
fr'ow of Philadelphia, all will ar
rive at McConnellsburg at 3 o'
clock in the afternoon, after
which a public reception will be
held at the Fulton House, when
in opportunity will be had for
every ouo who wishes to shako
hands with the distinguished can
didates. Two or three bands of
music will bo on hand to enliven
the occasion. The public speak
ing will be at the Court House in
the evening, and over How meet
ings will he arranged for, so that
every one will havo au oppjrtuni
ty to hear the speakers.

Fairview Sunday morning from

Albert W. Cleveuger of Pitts'
burg is spending this week with
relatives in this vicinity.
Albert Kiug of Altoona, who
had returned to Altoona last
Thursday after a teu days' visit
among relatives here, was called
back on Saturday by the serious
illness of his little daughter.
Quite a number of our people
attended tho Reunion last Fri
day. Some of our people have been
losing chickens, which they think
were not taken by "varmints."
Last Friday as Geo. C. Melius
and family were goiug to the Re
union iu a two-horse spring wag
on, the horses started to run near
Laidig school houso.aud threw the
occupants of tho wagon against
the fenco, injuring some of them
considerably and scattering the
eatables which they had taken
along for dinner.
On the same day Mrs. Joseph
Laidig and three daughters and
Mrs. G. II. King had started to
the Reunion, when tho holding
back strap became detached from
tho vehicle, causing the horse
they wero driving to run. The
occupants were thrown out and
Mrs. Laidig and daughter Gertie
were kicked by the horse, Lt
not seriously.
