nic on Wells Volley camp ground
was a very enjoyable affair. A
fine day aud a large happy crowd
were delightful features. This
program was rendered : Prayer
by Rev. E. G. Baker, of Newport,
Pa.; music by a large choir, with
Newton Edwards as chorister.
Mr. W. II. Spaogler made a plead
ing and practical address o.i the
"Past and Present of the Three
Sprh.-.j Charge." Miss Nora
Griffith recited "Reverie" in a
creditable manner. In the after
noon, Mr. D. E. McClain deliver
ed a carefully prepared speech on
the Future of the charge. Miss
Maude Baumgardner recited
"Jack Conner" with merit. Rev.
E. G. Baker delivered a profound
and eloquent speech on "Christi
anity and Education."
On Monday Contractor C. A.
Sims, who has charge of the im
provements on the P. R. R. at Mt.
Union, in company with a party of
Engineers and President Wood,
went over the route of tho pro
posed extension of the Shade Gap
railroad from Shade Gap to Burnt
Cabios, and in a short time it wi'l
bo definitely known whether the
road w"l be built at this time or
not. 1 n case the road is completed,
and there is really littledoubt that
it will be, there will be one oi the
finest parks fitted up for picnics
and out door meetings and exhi
bitions iu Central Pennsylvania,
and much valuable timber land
will be placed in easy reach of
market. We hope to be able to
anuounce in a few weeks thatwork
lias been commenced on the road.

A pleasant social event occur
red at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Nicholas Metzler, at Burnt Cab
ins, on Wednesday evening of last
week. It was given in honor of
their youugest daughter Ora's
birthday. A number of her
young friends were present, and
the evening was delightfully
spent at games and various other
innocent amusements. The re
freshments were not the least im
portant feature of ihe occasion.
Tho merry party broke up about
midnight, each guest in depart
ing wished tho youug lady many
happy returns.

ly named for it does give the
news.
One of the most disatrous
Storms passed over the Cove last
Saturday evening ibat has visit
ed us for years. It was a stroug
combination of wind, rain, hail,
thunder aud lightning. The loss
will bo thousands of bushels of
buckwheat, and nearly the entire
corn crop. There was an unus
ually large crop of buckwheat
put, and it was fine. The streams
were higher than ever wasknown,
and fences and bridges were car
ried away aud the roads torn to
pieces. The apple and peach crop
was also destroyed. Hail was
seen on tho ground the next day..
