E. church in this place last Sunday evening were very in teresting, and attracted a large audience. The primal y object of these services is to raise money, md each church has a special ob ject to which this money is ap plied. The Presbyterian people use their Children's Day fuud for the extension of the Sabbath school work, while the Methodists use theirs to enable poor young men of their church to secure an education. From this fund they lend students money to assist them to get through college. The students are then supposed to pay it back into the fund, when it is used to help others, and so on ad infinitum. Ho also sold a num ber of sewing machines on easy payments, securing 5 in advance and never delivering the ma chines. His slickest scheme, is to examine a sewing machine, ex tract the shuttle, put in a broken one, and tell the owner ho will fix the machine for 2. J fe then takes out the broken shuttle, replaces the one that was in the machine, and collects the 2. Ho also sells spectacles to his hoodwinked vic tims, so that they can see to get home.
