ENDS LIFE BECAUSE OF POOR HEALTH Woman Near Towanda Com mits Suicide in River Miss Fttie Arnold, of Indian Hill, about two miles from Towanda, committed suicide Sunday by jump ing in the Susquehanna river near her home. Her brother, (Jeorge Arnold, ran all the way from home, reached his sister and pulled her to shore before death had come, but was unable to resuscitate her. Miss Arnold was about fourty years of age and has been in poor health for some time, being melancholy at times. THE NEWS ITEM Lay Off Navy Employes Boston, July I.—Nearly 1,500 of the 2,000 men employed at the Charlestown navy yard, were affect ed by a lay off which went into effect today because of the failure of congress to make provisions for the payment of their wages. The only emplopes kept at work were those who were absolutely neces sary to the service such as police, fireman and clerks. Customs em ployes are affected also.
