On next; Tuesday the voters of Sullivan County will be culled up on to elect a Treasurer l'or Sulli .an county. For this important ollicc Joseph A. Helsman of Berniqe is a csmdidate. Mr. Helsman is so well known throughout the county hy reason of his residence of over forty years here, that he needs no introduction to the voters. Pro bably half of them know him per sonally and to become acquainted with is to regard him in high es teem ever afterwards. "Joe" has never been a candi date for a county office before, but he has made a thorough, though quiet canvass. It has always been a gentlemanly canvass. He has indulged in no abuse of other can didates nor permitted others to do it in his behalf. He has been fair and eorteous to the other candi dates. This is characteristic of the man. All indications point to Mr. Herman's election by a large ma jority. His large acquaintance, popularity and fitness for the office are his great elements of strength. The people generally recognize in him a. man very desirable for the position and they will rally to his support next Tuesday, regardless of political affilliations. If the funds of Sulli van county are hand led by Mr. Hclsmaii during the next four years, they will be in safe hands. VOTE FOR IIKLS MAN. IIIVIN IIOTTENSTEIN | X Jury List For December Court. We are a trifle late this week and this is the reason : Our old gasolene granny, commonly called an engine, balked on us without just cause or provocation. We offered it all kinds of inducements if it would only run, but the ob stinate old thing just, simply re fused to run until it got good and ready. We've arrived at the con elusion that a gasolene engine is descended from a mule, it having all of the disagreeable traits, habits and tricks of said animal, but like darwin's theory of man there is a missing link. Snider of Davidson lownshij), is the popular Democra tic candidate for County Com missioner. Mr. Snider has all of the qualifications necessary to enable hint to liill the office with honor to himself and with benefit to the County. While he is not a Republican, we must all acknow ledge that he is a gentleman and a man of ability, then again in selecting our County ollicers we should not lay so much stress upon the, political party to which a can didate belongs, but we should ask ourselves this question : "Is this man qualified to perform the duties of said otlice if elected." Political Advertisement. - Rabbits arc plentiful around | this section this year and are being 1 killed by the dozen. The Great Hunter ? A young man from Laporte carrying a rifle was out in the wilds near Celestia Thursday, evi dently with the intention of kill ing something. He was standing there with that Teddyistie look, and imagined that all the game animals for miles around would be seeking a secluded spot if they knew he was there. A rabbit that happened to bo passing by came under the great hunter's eagle eye, quickly he brought his rifle to his shoulder and fired, the poor rab bit jumped up in the air, came down on his back and lay there. With the air of a conqueror he stepped forward to bag the game, when all of a sudden the little fellow jumped up and hopped away stopping only long enough to say —stung.
