Mrs. R. W. Carpenter returned
Wednesday evening of last week
from the Packer Hospital at Sayre,
where she underwent an operation
for cancer.
L. R. Bussler spent Saturday
with friends in Hughesville. Mr.
Bussler has returned to Laporte
from Ricketts where he has been
employed for the past winter. He
will resume his work at paper
hanging and painting in this place.
He has received the contract for
papering the M. E. Church.

Death Claims Infants.
Leo James and Lynn Joseph the
four months old twin children of
Mrs. and Mrs. G. C. Shaffer died
a few hours apart on Saturday and
Sunday. Pneumonia was the
cause of the death of the infants,
j A double funeral was held in the
M. E. Church 011 Tuesday. Inter
ment was held in the Mount Ash
Cemetery.

Sheriff Swank was an official
business man in tlie western part
of the county Monday.
The following are the appoint
ment's of the Central Pennsylvania

Leach; Muncy Valley, J. J. Resh;
Picture Rocks, Joseph H. Price.
Chas. Jingo and wife of Eikland,
were ' visiting with editor Hugo
and family the early part of the
week.
1500 at Bryan Banquet.
Nearly 1500 men joined in the cele
bration of William n. Bryan's fifty
first birthday, sitting down to a d')l
lar dinner at the Auditorium in Lin
coln. Neb., and later listening to 8
dozen speeches from distinguished
Democrats. The event was princlpa'l>
intended to convey to those who hav*
again been burying Bryan that they
must postpon.e that interesting cere
mony.
Joaquin Miller Suffers Relapse.
Although lie is slightly better, Joa
quin Miller, the poet of the Sierras,
who has been slowly recovering from
a serious illness at the Fabiola hos
pital in Oakland, Cal., he has suffered
a relapse. Since the departure of his
daughter Juanita, who has gone to
New York to arrange her affairs pre
paratory to making her home at her
aged father's home, the poet has seem
ed to languish.
