orders to make preparation to store a
quantity of coal that was ordered

is further reported that an officer ol
the company has stated thas the tan

Three prisoners doing terms of
two and three years escaped from j
the Luzerne county jail sit Wilkes- j
bar re Thursday night by sawing the
bars of a window at the rear of the
jail during the absence of the keep-j
ers. There escape was not discovered j
until some time later,
j The potato market is dropping

prospective appearance of the
seventeen-year locusts. I'he

There is u great d al of un«isi»,j3-<
existing aiming ilie people reliitive
to the general strike among tin- coal
miners which menances the country.
All are anxiously awaiting the turn
of events and should a strike become
an assured tiling there will be a gen
eral Idling up of coal bins in order
to obtain a supply that may tide the
owners over until the miners and
operators light out their battles and
succeed in readjusting affairs.
The sale of intoxicating liquors on
Sundays and to minors is prohibited
by law. Theact of assembly is plain
on this question and provides that
''it shall not be lawful for any per
son with or without license, to fur
nish, by sale, gift or otherwise, to
any person, spirituous, vinous, malt
or brewed liquor on Sundays" Of
fenses of this nature are subject to a
Hue of not less than &50 and not more
than #">00, and the offender may be
imprisoned for a period of not less
than twenty nor more than ninety
days. of course conviction is
necessary before the lines can be im
posed.
Contrary to the predictions of the
Ground Hog, the weather instead
of becoming mild at this time, it
seems that we are to l>e treated
with an article of the reverse
nature. The weather man seems
to have decided that not a full
measure of winter had been handed
out to the world, and is now, even
though a little tardy, desirous to
make amends for the shortage. At
any late, snow began falling at an
early hour Monday morning, and
the day was but little advanced
when the storm assumed pro
portions bordering on a. blizzard,
ami lhis condition was continued
all day long.
All over the region is the same
condition of things, very little tra
vel being indulged in l>v the rural
inhabitants, who iind the warmth
of their "(resides much preferable
to moving about out-doors.
Mr. A. ('. Jenkins of Celestia,
presented the editor with a baker's
dozen of eggs which weighed 2 1-4
pounds, which compared to the
average eggs, weighing 8 to the
pound, places Mr. Jenkins' breed
of Black Minorcasfar in the lead of
any egg record in this vicinity.
There was but one double yolk egg
in the dozen above mentioned. Mr.
Jenkins has recently placed his
eggs on the market for settings.
In the hands of a careful brooder
these liens are capable of producing
from 17."> to ISO or more eggs a year.
In fact, Mr. Jenkins says "his
hens do double duty by laying
nights." With eggs averaging
from - 1-2 to 3 ounces each, cer
tainly cannot help com mailing
high prices for fancy trade.
Nobody will have any sympathy
for the cold storage egg trust, which
bus lost £7,000,0000n account ol the
mild winter keeping the hens busy.
The trust bought lip tin eggs last
spring at low prices and stored them,
hoping to sell at high prices this
winter. Now they are trying to un
load them at 10 cents a do/.in.
