News Items of Interest at the
COUNTY SEAT.
Ellery Ilanley of Mildred, a
young man about 19 years of age,
was seriously hurt in the Gunton
mine on Monday, Sept. 29th. A
large piece of rock from the roof
fell upon him crushing his foot,
breaking his leg above the knee
and inflicting a dangerous wound
on top of the head.
11. W. Messersinith and family
of Lopez, desire to thank their
neighbors and friends for the many
expressions of sympathy extended
them, and the timely assistance
given during the illness of their
child, and also at time of the fun
eral.
It is no small honor to a town to
be called upon to entertain the
Grand Army of the Republic. The
county seat was given over to the
58th Reg. on Monday for their an
nual reunion. In coming to La
porte they found a village bedeck
ed with national colors, and open
arms to receive them. Laurel
wreathed victory proudly perched
upon our banner in having com
pletely captured the admiration of
the old soldiers. In departing they
gave assurance tWvt such a recept
ion and time as here given them
will linger long as a happy remem
brance. Mr. W. F. Brown of
Hillsgrove called on the News
Item and asked that the press aid
them in extending thanks to the
citizens of Laporte for the best
time the 58th Reg. ever had, as he
felt that none of his party were
able to do justice in this respect,
they having been so siunptionsly
dined by mine host Gallagher that
all were too full for utterance.
May their years be many and
their visit to Laporte repeated,
A pretty wedding was solemnized
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.
B. Ritter, in the second ward, on
Tuesday at 11 o'clock a. 111. when
their daughter, Miss Emma, be
came the bride of Mr. Leo Wrede.
Dr. M. E. Hermann of Dushore
played the wedding march as tlife
happy couple entered the parlor
where the marriage ceremony was
performed by Rev. J. W. Klingler
in the presence of about forty in
vited guests. After congratulations
had been showered upon Mr. and
Mrs. Wrede, they led the way to
the dining room where a wedding
breakfast was served to the guests.
The newly wedded couple left on
the afternoon train for a short
tour. They were the recipients of
many handsome presents. Mr.
Wrede and his bride are two of 'La
porte's popular young people, and
the News Item joins in wishing
them a happy and prosperous life.
