■ - - - - - - L j- COUNTY NEWS: IR&Fg&gP ESTELLA. *- The subject of this sketch, Susan Shoemaker Brown, who died Aug. 2nd, was born in Leroy township, Bradford county, April 21st, 1840, making her at the time of her death 02 years, 3 months and 12 days old. She was the eldest daughter of twelve children, six boys and six girls, of Payne and Rachel Shoemaker. She was married to J. Ellis Brown July 4th IKGO. The mother of six chil dren, two having preceded her to the spirit-land, there is left a hus band and four children, Mrs. M. M. Webster, Mrs. Ernest Smith, S. W. and E. T. Brown to mourn her loss. She also leaves five sisters and four brothers, Mrs. S. S. Vroman and Mrs. I. K. Brown of Ilillsgrove, Mrs \V. T. More and Mrs. Geo. Brown of Estella, Mrs. L. \V. Bartlet, or Washington, S. P. Shoemaker, Es tella, Joseph of Leroy and Win. S. of Shunk. She, was an earnest christian, a loving sister, a faithful wife Jand fond mother. Rev. P. Morse of Leroy, a minister of the Dcciples of Christ, assisted by Rev. Bowen of Millview, officiated at the funeral service. Many tokens of esteem were shown by neighbors and friends, the Sunday School chil dren marching in file deposited flow ers on the coffin lid of one they lov ed in life and knew she loved them in return. She died as she lived, in the blessed hope of eternal life, as she remarked to her daughter a short time before her death,J"l have Anchored my Soul in that Haven of Rest." There was a haying bee for J. E. Brown on Monday as his haying was delayed on account of the sickness and death of his wife. Mrs. Ernest Smith went to Nord mont on Monday to attend the fun eral of her brother-in-law, Bird Smith. Farmers are busy between show ers trying to cut oats. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Fenton of (jranville attended the funeral of their cousin Mrs. Brown. Mrs. Fannie Kittle and Mrs. Mcr tie Taylor of Granville attended the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. Brown. Dr. Chaffee of Towanda has been staying a few days with his family at the farm. Mrs. J. P. Rogers is on the sick list. Mr. Fetherby is hauling bark from his job to ilillsgrovc. HILLSGROVE. Sam Darby and family visited relatives at Opps, Lycoming county last week. Birdsall has completed the crib bing below 'Squire Speakers and it is now ready for travel. Fuliner Jenkins drove to Forks ville Saturday. Sam Galough, Will Harrison, Bill Boyles and Dan Grafius were dele gates to the Republicau convention this week. Mr. Fisher, agent for the Will iamsport Hospital, \Vas a business man in town last week. Joseph Miller is visiting his broth er Harry at Jamison this week. Atty. Fred Moulthrop, who has been visiting at Steve Vromans has re turned to his home at Sidney, N. V. Fred Betts, agent for the Grand l'nion Tea Co., of Williamsport was in town Sunday. Alfred Stryckland in on the sick list. Our old townsman Dan Grafius, will soon move to Hughesville where he will make his future home. Mrs. Jacob Galough left here on Monday to visit frionds at Towanda and Leroy.. Prof. Clarence Strevy of Towanda visited at Paul Galoughs on Sunday. 'Squire Speaker is kept quite busy these days; he is thinking of starting a branch office over in the town so that the people looking for law will not have to cross the trestle. Mrs. Win. Haynes of William sport is visiting at W. Saddlers. The band will reorganize this week and take in several young members. Hills Grove certainly has the talent for a first class band.
