DVSHOBE
Fine growing weather.
Rev. P. H. Hover was called to
his parents home near Philadelphia,
one day last week owing to the crit
ical condition of his father. The
aged gentleman met with an acci
dent several weeks ago and was fa
tally injured. Mrs. Hoover started
to join her husband Tuesday.
The gasoline motor now being put
in the foundry and machine shops
is nearly ready for operation. Its a
nice piece of machinery.
J. H. Lepset of Portland Mills,
Pa., formerly superintendent of the
Standard kindling wood factory at
Lopez, and H. M. Kellog of the lat
ter place were in town Friday.
Some eight or ten of the Adrianoe
reapers and binders were delivered
to farmers from the cars at this
place Saturday. Another car load
of the Adriance machinery is ex
pected within a few days.
Of the death claims paid by M. A.
Scurman, agent of the Penn Mutial
Life Ins. Co., your correspondent
mentioned as one of them that of
Louis M. Fasset of Forkston
while the compositor made it Louis
M. Fawcett of Forksville. If there
be such a man at Forksville, we
wish to congratulate him that he is
not numbered with those who have
died.
A number of Elkland farmers
wore in town Saturday. Among
them were: Edward I). Norton,
Thos. MeCarty, Clarence Hart,
Speaker Osier and Froas Hess.
Entertainment by parochial school
Friday and Saturday evenings.

Mr. O. J. Sherman, who is em
ployed by W. B. Snyder, was in
town Sunday.
Arthur Miner, the hustling clerk
oft lie Lykens Collery, Bernice, was
calling on the Nordmont boys (?!)
Sunday.
The festival held Saturday eve
ning was not as successful as was
expected, owing to the inclement
weather.
Miss Alma Horn entertained her
cousin, Miss Myrtle Edgar of Sones
town, this week.
The young men who have been
trying to find the shortest route to
the county seat, say they have now
succeeded and will not need togo
again.
It is rumored that the wedding
bells will soon ring again.
Messrs. Wieland & Kessler tran
sacted business in Towanda Monday
and Tuesday.
The Children's exercises held in
the M. E. Church Sunday evening
was largely attended.
Mr. H. ltay Lewis of this place is
now employed at Cress Mont Inn,
Eagles Mere.
Mr. Chas. Shultz has moved from
the ltussel farm to this place.
Miss Alice Pennington, one of our
accomplished young ladies, has re
turned from Freeburg, having com
pleted a six weeks course in music.
Mr. Robert Hess the hustling in
surance agent from Muncy Valley
was in town Monday.

day with his parents in Picture

Rev. 8. B. Bidlack will preach

Harry Speaiy and James Laird
who are employed at Emmons, were
home over Sunday.
Mr. John Hanley of Ricketts vis
ited with friends in town last week.
Samuel Hunter transacted busi
ness in Laporte on Monday.
Some of our lovers of sport spent
Friday at Lopez Pond fishing. They
returned with the usual fisherman's
luck.
Quite a number of our people
patronized the moving picture show
in Hughesville Friday night.
Lewis Lake of Scranton has accept
ed a position with the Sutton-Peck
Chemical Co.
Mrs. Duane Latourette will leave
on Friday for Buffalo, where she

Miss Martha Brundage has return
ed from Williamsport where she has
been attending school.
Clarence M. Hess is soliciting for
the News Iteni in this section. Now

held at Lincoln Falls Saturday and

Miss Loie Baldwin of Forksville,
called on Mrs. J. E. Brown, Sunday..

called on friends at Estella, Satur
day and Sunday.
John Gaunt and his two little girls
were called to Hughesville, by the
death of his father who was buried
at that place on Thursday last.
During a heavy thunderstorm Fri
day evening lightning struck the
cave house of J. M. Osier, splintering
it somewhat, but no serious damage
was done.
W. E. Wheatley is busy putting
in substantial stone hutments and
building the bridge that spans
Kings creek at W. T. More's.
Miss Hazel Mcßride is visiting ;
her aunt, Mrs. W. 11. Plotts.
Misses Grace and Lilly Wheatley j
are taking music lessons of Miss Ev- J
eritt, who is stopping at Mrs. N. K. J
Woodward's at Lincoln Falls. They ;
say there are lots of Strawberries!
over at Squire Bird". Say, I won

berryin" up there. It is said he
picked more than a hundred quarts
last week. They are tame ones so
I think we might get nigh enough
to capture a few of the largest ones. :

day last. If any one should find;

ceived by the owner.
MUNCY VALLEY.
On Tuesday fire broke out in the
house occupied by Joe Nem its on
Water street. The blowing of the
fire whistle aroused the entire neigh
borhood, and it looked for a time as
though every house on the street
would be destroyed. But with (Jen.
Bigger managing the engine and
Harvey Johnson the nozzle of the
Muncy Valley fire apparatus the
conflagration was prevented.
While strolling through the pas
ture fields near Muncy Valley, the
writer observed two very beautiful
colts, one and two years old respec
tively. They are thoroughbreed,
dark irongreys, and perfect match s.
Upon inquiry we learned that they
belong to Alvin P. Miller, the popu
lar foreman of the tannery. Ere
long Mr. Miller will be driving one
of the finest teams in Sullivan Co.
Miss Myrtle Miller of William
sport who has been nursing Thos. S.
Simmons, returned to that place
Saturday. Mr. Simmons is recover
ing from his serious illness and will
soon be out among his friends again.
He was operated upon for bowel
trouble by Dr. Nutt, and for a time
the doctors had dispaired in saving
his life, but a good constitution to
draw upon saved his life.
Harry Sypher of Picture Bocks,
was in town one day last week.
John Miller of Sonestown visited
his brother at this place Saturday.
James Long who is working at
Eagles Mere spent Sunday with his
family at this place.
Howard Ritter of Lairdsville tran
sacted business at this place Wedues
day.
Mi AS Edna Taylor of Strawbridge
spent a few hours in town Saturday.
Mrs. 11. A. Knipe and son Fred,
of Hughesville, visited the family of
J. P. Miller on Friday last.
Mrs. A. P. Starr and daughters,
Elda and Eva visited the former's
