All communications should be ad ■ IrPOMPII to REPUBLICAN NEWS IT KM, Laporte Pa., Entered at the Post Office at Laporte, as second-class mail matter. (Special Correspondence.) Harrisburg. Aug. 13.—General Frank Header, chairman of the Republican stats committee was here last week completing arrangements for the Re publican state convention. The Opera House was engaged some weeks ago Hnd the friends of the candidates and th« leaders of the several county dele gations are aecuring rooms in advanec in anticipation of one of the largest convention crowds that has assembled hure for soma years. The stalwart Republicans through out the state are naturally anxious to got together to rejoice over the great victory achieved at the recent session ol' the legislature in the organization of both branches of the general as sembly and the election of Colonel M. S. Quay to the United States senate. After the bitter struggle of the last two years over the United States sena- Unship and the glorious victory that was the result, the regular Republi cans will gather at the state capital this month to felicitate with each oth er and to map out plans for future vic tories for their party standard hearers. HIG POLITICS AHEAD. A gubernatorial campaign will short ly be inaugurated and the rank and tile of the party will be eager to line up for the choice of the stalwart ele ment and be prepared to meet every move of the insurgent contingent and their Democratic allies, to supplant the regular Republicans in the control of the affairs of state. The Republican leaders are quite willing to rest their case upon the record of the administration of Gov ernor Stone, and they feel that they have nothing to explain or excuse, nor have they any reason to he concerned about the outcome. The. coming can vass of the state they are willing, shall be made exclusively upon state issues and they say they are eager to meet the people and the tax payers, especially, upon every question that may be raised during the contest. READY TO MEET FUSION. Whether their shall be fusion or no fusion, between the Democrats and the insurgents in the state campaign, does not in the least concern the regular Republicans. In fact, they would pre fer that the so called fusion program be carried out. and that the voters of the state shall be given an opportunity at the earliest possible moment to de cide the issue as to whether the Re publican party or the Democratic pniiy, with its insurgent adjunct, shall be held accountable for the ad ministration of the affairs of the com monwealth in the various departments of the state government which will be affected by the coming election. Outside of the Wanamaker cam paign in Philadelphia to elect Wana maker's counsel to the office of dis trict attorney, where the insurgents and some of the Democrats have got ten together to further personal ends, there is practically no movement look ing to the amalgamation of the in surgent Republicans and the Demo crats in the state. Wanamakerism seems to be on the wane among the voters of this com monwealth. especially in the country districts, where the personal politics of the ambitious millionaire of the Quaker City are more closely scruti nized than they are in the busy muni cipalities of the state. A BIG CROW EXPECTED. Judging from the number of roems already engaged at the leading hotels there is going to be a very large at tendance at the Republican state con vention next week. The country lead ers will all be on hand and many of their most active lieutenants and their supporters will also be here to partici pate in one of the most interesting gatherings of stalwart Republicans tha/t has been held in Pennsylvania for a long time. There will be harmony in the pro ceedings of the convention, for the number of delegates who will not be in entire sympathy with the leaders of the party in directing the affairs of the convention will be infinitesimal. Philadelphia and Allegheny, which for years were more or less antagonis tic instate politics, will be nractical ly unanimous in support of the pro gram that will be agreed upon Hy the stalwart leaders. HARMONY IS ASSURED. They will be in hearty accord with the platform that will be prepared after the leaders of the various sections of the state get together, and the ticket which will be nominated will be the unanimous choice of the delegates from ali the counties. For state treasurer, only one name has thus far been mentioned as likely to be presented to the convention. Rep resentative Frank G. Harris, of Clear field oounty, who made a splendid rec ord at the laat session of the legislature and who was especially prominent as a chaaipion of the pure butter interest In the passage of the aaU-oloomftrVftriHe bill, has virtually a walkover for state treasurer. No one doubts that Ju-tice Potter, of Allegheny, will be given a spontaneous nomination to succeed himself on the supreme bench. He is one of tfie best known members of the bar and stal v art Republicans of western Pennsyl vania.
