WHEKEAS; It has pleased our Great
Commander to muster out from our
ranks our comrades, J. W. Hotteu
stein and t'has. 11. Seeley, and en
roll tliem in the ranks of his Grand
Army in that better land where all
shall meet their just reward; there
fore be it
Resohml , that while we bow in
hunble submission to his will and
realize that we must ourselves stand
ready to receive marching orders,
wo unite in this tribute of respect to
our comrades who ever faithfully
performed their duties as soldiers
and to whose valor on the field of
battle our Nation's history testiy,
Itemfrerf, that our sympathy is
hereby extended to the families of
our deceased comrades, that these
resolutions shall be spread upon the
records of our Post and a copy sent

FRANK HANSON, I
JOHN W.ROGEKS. I Com.
INVESTIGATION FIZZLE.
Tin- committee appointed to investigate
Allegations of bribery in connection with
(lie MeCarrell jury legislation and the
xennlorship has not maile the sensations
anticipated by the insurgents. The wit
nesses have reiterated the newspaper
reports, which on the whole have been
vague and indefinite and, while several
have sworn they believed they might
have gotten bribes, not a witness has
been produced to show that any money
was paid for a single vote. The insur
gents were rather startled last week
when one member of the house testified
that right in the headquarters of the so
calletl Business Men's League a bold nt
teuipl was made to get him to remain
out of the Republican senatorial caucus
by an alleged offer of inducements by
one of the Van Valkenburgs in the way
<>f passing legislation in which he was in
terested. Another Republican. I>l\ Zerbe,
of Lebanon, testified that he was in
formed that at these same headquarters
of fake reformers, there was a discus
sion of the question of which of the sup
porters of the regular Republican cau
cus nominee would be apt to take money
In have him change his vote from Col
ouel Quay. Testimony of this character
has done much to discredit the whole in
vestigation, which many regard as hav
ing been instituted solely for political
purposes. It is not likely to develop
much since this end has not been ac
complished. It. is interesting to note that
not a member of the legislature who has
been voting for Senator Quay has been
in any way involved in any improper
action by the disclosures before the com
mittee.
EYES ON MAG EE.
In the remaining days of the struggle
there is no doubt many bold moves will
lie made in the interest of the several as-
I'iiants for the senatorship. Friends of
i'. L. Magee have been talking of what
they may do before the end of the ses
sion in behalf of the Allegheny county
leader, and some are predicting that
there will be a breaking away of the
Magee contingent from the Republican
regulars within the next few days. There
are those who would like to see Magee
senator some day, who declare that if
iliis prospected break from Quay should
come it would end forever any chances
that Magee might have for becoming
senator. The eternal enmity of many of
l lie regulars would follow a desertion of
iliis character over to the insurgents,
and though Quay may not lie elected ut
this session of the legislature, they would
take good care that Magee would not be
the man.
i nc resignation of John It. Commons,
professor of sociology and political
economy at the Syracuse University,
which took place about a month ago,
is now said to have been a forced one.
John D. Archibald, of the Stnndard Oil
Company, is president of th? Hoard of
Trustees.
The charges of bribery made before
the investigating committee of the
Petisylvania legislature in connection
with tin* tight for the United States
Senatorship made by Representative
I.aubaeh were substantiated by Dr. 11.
11. I.aubacli, of Philadelphia a brother
of Representative Laubacl).
The Democratic State Central Com
mittee of Delaware unanimously
adopted resolutions denouncing Sena
tor E. 11. Farlow and representatives
William F. King and James 11. Clark
for voting for J. Edward Addicks for
United States Senator at the recent
session of the Delaware Legislature,
and calling upon them to resign their
offices as State Senator and Represen
tatives respectively.
Not Offered to Britain.
Washington, April I.— A high offi
cial of the Department of Stat" yester
day denied in most positive terms that
the Philippines had ever beeu offered
to Great Britain. The Department offi
cials claim the published report in the
Birmingham Post is ridiculous.
