The heavy rains commencing on Thursday evening of last week and continuing until Tuesday of this week, brought destruction along the Valley of the West Branch of the ' Susquehanna; the like of which lias , never been known in the Valley ex cept in June 1889. The city of Williamsport was inundated and much damage has been done. The ' water flooded her streets, being 112 some four feet in depth about the .Court House. All of the streets that lay low were flooded six and seven feet deep. Tholieadingß.il. ' tracks at their depot was covered with water some eight feet. The •several booms gave away on Mon day and all of the logs were swept down the river, also was three spans |of the Market street bridge taken away. i The damage is great, but it is not (thought it w ill be as great as that 'caused by the 'B9 flood. The j Williamsport people experienced lot* on the Ist of June 'B9, and with the coming of the heavy rains they (scented danger, and all day Sunday people were busy moving their goods jto places of safety and consequently were mire or less prepared for the rise of the water. Oil Monday at about :>::>() the river reached its highest pilch, ,'SO feet, which was 31 inches less than the- June flood. Loyal Sock was in it too, fhe usual serene aid crystal waters of our Sullivan couuty sparkling stream igot on its high horse and was one of the chief tributaries lo the West Branch. We have not learned whether there was any damage done along its Valley or not. The Healing R. I!, bridge at Muncy and which was double track and was supposed to he one of the h"uviest structures along their road, was swept oil her piers and made n total wreck. The Pcnn. 11.
