Kelly, the hardware man of Hughesville, is receiving a good trade from this section. We bear of orders going there nearly every day. If Congress would only adjourn and go home right away, business would resume and you would hear no more of tbe army of the unem ployed. It is a piece of ill manners to turn in a church pew and observe who is coming in the door. Children are excusable for this offense but adults are not. E. I. The leaders of the Democratic party of Sullivan county, apprehend that the Judgeship contest this fall will be a close one and say the odds are not in their favor. The recent fall of snow called business to a standstill in this vicini ty. The building boom took a rest, and the mechanics were restless and hardly knew how to putin the time. The printers of Williamsport struck on Friday last. The scale of wages did ut suit them. The pub lishers of the several papers inserted a three line adv. in the Philadel phia papers and one hundred and fifty printers responded to th# call, hence the Williamsport printers are out of a job and the papers are is sued as before. Strikes seldom benefit the strikers. The Edison phonograph concert given in the M. E. church on Satur day and Monday evening, G. I. Clark manager, was well worth the price of admittance. The machine repeated several lectures, sang the old ' Oaken Bucket" played solos, and several choice selections of the Marine band of Washington. It was a pleasant evening's entertain ment and compliments ran high. The Lehigh Valley R. R., has !j been helling tickets to New York 5 scalpers. We have a law iu this Stale forbidding scalpers selling R. l{. tickets, and it should be so 4 amended as to prohibit railroad of- ] ficers from selling to scalpers. The ■ law was passed to protect railroads, i but if they will not protect them- ; selves, repeal the law and let the ' citizens of Pennsylvania have a whack at cheap tickets. ; We understand that the first step : has been taken towards a movement, \ the object of which is to establish a ■ Catholic Parish at Laporte. Some : gentlemen, who are mostly inXerest- ■ ed in the plan, met and decided to : hold a private meeting at the resi dence of Mr, W. A. Kennedy next . Sunday, April 22nd at 2 o'clock p. m,, for the furtherance of the object in vieiv. All interested parties are cordially invited to attend.
