THE REPUBLICAN. W. M. CHEKJEY Editor. FKID AY7 F E li RU AHY I? 71888. Entered at the Post Office LaPortc, Pa. as second class mail matter. PIE AS ANT lIILL ITEMS. Sunday was a very pleasant day. The concert last Friday evening was very good. Mr. Purcells.iys that lie won't be lieve the ground bog theory any more, for its nothing but a whim. Owing to the lack of powder on the line of It. R., a number of the foreman in this vicinity were idle last week. Have yon a jack knife ? If 3 011 have keep it in your pocket and don't let it slip out, for it will cost you a dime to get it back again. It appears that Mr. Mead is afraid of burglars, by the way he keeps guard,—a dog at each barn, one in the house and another on pick-it. The cry of "wlioeback Turk" is heard ringing through the house at all hours of the night. We would suggest to the proprietor that a gag would help the poor boy to rest so that he would'nt get up so tired in the morning. Do you all agree bo}'B ? James White, formerly of lowa, ■who has been making his home with his sister, Mrs. 8- Mend, was taken with a choking spell on Saturday. Dr. Hill was called and pronounced it an attack of asthma. The old gentleman is slowly improving. Christian Broschart lost a very fine ox on Sunday. Chris was at work on the railroad and was said to have the best team of c ittlc on the line. It is verj seldom that the Squire takes time to visit. S. P. Shoemaker has just closed a term of vocal music. The class consisted of the lads and lasses, and was very successful.
