at the Falls last Friday evening.
A party of young men from Wil

W. T. More had four sheep killed
and one badly mangled by dogs that
were celebrating on the Fouith. I
K. Brown also had throe killed on
the same day.
The ever Glorious Fourth was
celebrated in grand style, the
weather being line. The parade
formed on the corner of Church
street about 10 o'clock with the O.
A. R. as usual to the front, the Odd
Fellows, second; the P. of 1., third;
Good Templar's from Shunk, fourth;
the Grangers, fifth in the column
The Sabbath Schools bringing up the
rear making altogether quite a pro
cession. E. I. Sturdovant being
marshal of the day kept the long
column in perfect order from the
start to the grove where they wore
seated and listened to some good
music by the Estella choir, which
by the way is second to none. Rev.
.Moore making the opening address,
which was pron uneed splendid. !
Prof. M. K. Black spoke in regard
to the different organizations repre- (

and educational. Then came 1). I'. I
Huckle, who got warmed up to the !
oc-cassion and gave them a rousing I
old Fourth of July speech which
was very pleasing to the vast nu-1
dience. Other short addresses were I
made by Revs. Carpenter and Stur
dovant when all repaired to the long
tables which were loaded with good
things prepared by willing hands.
Everything passed oil very pleasant- I
ly. It was estimated that their |
wore one thousand in attendance old j
and young. The refreshment stand ,
was well patronised throughout the
'lay.

He re is Mr. Depcw's experience
as stated in a speech before a com
pany of railroad men:
"'Twenty-live years ago I knew
every man, woman and child in (
Peekskill. And it has been a study
with me to mark boys who started
in every grade of life with myself, to
see what has become of tbem. 1
was up last fall and begun to count
them over, and It was an instructive
exhibit. Some of them become
clerks, merchants, manufactures,law
yers, doctors. It is remarkable that
every one of those that drank is
dead; not one living of my age.
Barring a few who were taken off
by sickness, every one who proved a
wreck and wrecked his family did it
from rum and no other cause. Of
those who were church-going peo
ple, who were steady, industrious,
and hard-working men, who were
frugal and thrifty, every single one
of them, without one exception,
owns the house in which he lives and
has something laid by, the interest
on which, with his house, would
carry hi in through many a rainy
daj\ When a man becomes debased
with gambling, rum, or drink, he
does not care ; ail his fiuer feelings
are crowded out. The poor women
at home are the ones that suffer—
suffer in their tenderest emotions;
suffer in their affections for
whom they love better than lire; ''
I think almost every man who is
75 years old, if he will lookback and
reviow carefully his youthful ac
quaintances, can bear almost it not
j equally as strong testimony as to
i the effects of intoxicating drinks on
| human life.
It is certain that but a &m ill pro
portion of the drinkers who died j
prematurely were druukards; they
were simply what is called temper
ate drinkers.

We don't do anything of the kind,

place". We hive no use for silly,
meaningless arguments. It is as
much to yout interest to deal with

New goods are constantly ar

with the style and finish of the |
