Porte, on Thursday Feb. 25, at 1
o'clock P. M.
The purpose of this meeting is to
fix the time of holding a convention
to nominate one person as delegate
to the State Convention and to
transact other important business.
A full attendance is desired.

William 91. White, Aged 25
Vears— Buried Sunday the 14th

at Sugar Ridge.
The sudden death of this young
man has saddened the entire com
munity. He left home in the morn
ing full of life and vigor to haul his
logs to the saw mill. But alas a
rolling log caught him in its cruel
embrace and killed him almost in
stantly. Without one word of
warning, his dead body was return
ed to his weeping wife, who, with
her two young children have the
heartfelt sympathy of the entire
neighborhood.
William White was a man univer
sally respected. His name was
never mentioned but with praise.
With great firmness and energy he
united an honesty of purpose and
kindness of spirit that won for him
a large number of admiring friends.
Gaining for him the confidence and
respect of those who diflered from
him. He was a man of exemplar}'
habits. His llfeas a son,brother,hus
band, father and citizen, should be
an example to the young men of the
township.
The memory of his bright and
blameless life should impart some
consolation to bis afflicted family.
Without a word of warning came the call!
From out the realms of Time so swift he
sped,
We ask with bated breath, "Can He Be
Dead ?"
So still he lies, while tears of anguish fall,
Upon that lifeless form, beloved of all;
A victim it would seem to slaughter led,
With crown of glowing manhood on his
head.
But weeping friends the wormwood and
the gall,
Are yours alone. The cup is full ! Yet he,
From earthly toil and care forever free,
Hath in exchanging worlds, obtained
great gain !
Surely this thought must mitigate Lore's
pain,
Then launch the life-boat—head it for that
shore,
Where parting pangs, are suffered never
more.

JIERNICE ITEMS.
Immediately after morning ser
vice on Sunday Feb. 7th, a fire sud
denly broke out, in the double
building on Main St., occupied as a
residence, by our Honored Superin
tendent Messrs Jasper Taylor and
.las. Ross. Commencing in the up
per story. It soon spread over the
dry timber, raping the whole build
ing in flames. Nearly all the furni
ture, however, was removed from
the lower rooms. Without any cry
of fire our citizens were silently and
promptly on the ground, and with
reckless energy, prevented the
flames from reaching the adjoining
residences. Accepting the prompt
and generous invitation of the
hostess of the White House, Mr.
Taylor and family were immediately
settled in a pleasant home. And
the Odd Fellows with their accus
tomed thoughtfulness threw open
their commodious Hall, to Mr.
Rossar.d family. The ladies of our
city kindly assisted in making the
hall a comfortable home. Both
7>irs. Ross and Mrs. Taylor, are full
of thankfulness for the prompt as
sistance and kindness of their many
friends.
Mrs. Win. [larrington has taken a
class of five, in German, and rumor
aays they arc becoming quite pro.-
ficient—already beginning to talk a
little, in this classical though modern
language.
Mrs. J. Wilmot has been very
sick with the g rip for two weeks,
and though at present somewhat
convalescent she is still very low in
deed.
Our very genial and respected
towusman conductor Merithew, is
just recovering from a severe illness.

office, in the Borough of LaPorte. on Monday, the 4th day of Jannary A. D. 1892. (it being
the first Monday in January,) acd did audit and a'ljust and settled the several accounts re
quired of us by law. and that we do And the said accounts correct and true to the best of onr
knowledge, information and belief, as Set forth fully and separately in the foregoing Report.
