Brooke started the service from the
right hand side, scoring two aces by
service in his first hand, while Mackay
failed to score. In the second hand
Brooke added another ace by placing
apd Mackay one by service. At this
point Mackay, with 3 to 1 against him,
evened honors, and at the end of the
third linnd the score was 5 all. Mackay
scored 3 in the next haud to Brooke's
2. and finally won out in the seventh
In the second game Mackay bad
accurate placing, while Brooke relled
on his puzzling service, Mackay finally
winniog out at 16-8
The third game was very stubbornly
fought throughout, the score zigzag
ging, with honors nearly even, up tg
the last band, with the score 15-12 In
Mackay's favor. At the end of his
seventh hand Brooke lost a hard shot
to the front wall, and Mackay scored
the two necessary aces and the match
with the eighth hand at 15-12. Both
men were in thelr best form.
The “Flag to Flag” Race.
NASSAU, Bahama Islands, Feb, 18
~The second or official division of the
contestants In the “flag to flag” motor
boat race from Mi€mi, Fla. to Nassau
finished hers. The racers made a
splendid run to this port, arriving as
follows: The Daggett of New York,
first; The Whiz of New Haven, second,
and the Klondike of Miam!, which was
Jeading but ran iuto 8.fog, last. The
Lee §. entered by 4. P. Gerlach of
New York, has not yet been heard

Curtis Thurston and wife entertain-
ed about a dozen of their young mar-
ried friends at thelr home, Maple

S. of A. will meet in their hall Thurs-
day evening, Feb 21, this week, In-
stead of thelr regular night.
Miss lla Olmstead, the demented
girl was before Judge Fanning yester-
day and sentenced to the Girl's Re-
form School at Philadelphia.
H. N. Weller and wife went to She-
shequin this morning where they will
spend several days with Mrs. Wel-
ler's parents, Mr and Mrs. Robert
McDonald.
James Smith arrested for cutting
timber on T. P. Maney's lands has
been given until the first Monday In
March to settle the costs and if he
does this sentence will be suspend-
ed
The two boys, Joe Lilley and Hard-
ing were sentenced to the Glens Mills
Reform School yesterday by Judge
Fanning for thelr complicity in the
burglary case for which they were re-
cently arrested
James Birney will offer for public
sale at his residence on the Coleman
farm one mile east of Athens on Sat-
urday, Feb. 23, at one o'clock p. m,
a matched pair of heavy draft horses
beside wagons and farming utensils

The National Mutual Relief assocla-
tion had a splendid entertalnment at
Grand Army hall last evening and
it was well attended. After the soc-
fal part was over a musical program
was given. Mr. Edwin F. Loomis, the
talented mandolin player and compos-
er rendered some of his inspiring so-
los which created great enthusiasm.
Migs Shaw also gave a flue recitaiton
by all who attended.
The Righ School Concert.
Athens—We very much desire to
Impress upon the people of Athens
their obligation. to patronize the con-
cert to be given at the High School
hall Thursday evning, Feb. 21. It is
by home talent, but they all rank
to town and draw a large attendance.
The object of the concert is one that
appeals to the local pride of all who
have the interest of the school at
heart. The musicians have felt thelr
responsibility and the claims that the
school have upon them and will con-
tribute their services frees. Let the
people be equally generous and we
are confident that High Schol hall
will be crowded Thursday evening

of the drowning of four Greek divers
of this city in thie gulf of Mexico near
8t. Andrews, Fla, has been received
here. A fleet of sponge fishing boats
were caught in a hurricane offshore,
aud one capsized with the four men,
who clung to the upturned beat until
washed off by the waves,
Sheoting Mizup at Tasea.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala, Feb. 18—In 8
general shooting affray at Tacoa, #f-
teen miles sonth of this city, Gabriel
Swan killad Jack Lemolley and fa-
tally Injured Ant Blegel. An unknown
rallroad mao then took up the fight
and shot Swan In the back of the
head. The two Injured men are ex-
pected to dle.
Steamer Sank With Fourteen.
CARDIFF, Feb. 18. — The British
steamer Hellopolls was In collision off
this coast Saturday midnight with the
British steamer Orianda, outward
bound from Penarth. The Orianda
sank, and fourteen persons, Including |tach
her captain, were drowned. The Hell
opolis put into this port with her bows
damaged.
