Bail Has Been Fixed at $10,000 in De.
fault of Which He is Still In Jail
Atheus—The case of C. I. B. Landis
allas C. G. Lloydt grows interesting
as the facts have developed since his
return to Reading Although the
credit of his capture is claimed by
Detective Henry C. Martz, we assume
that his efforts would have been [ruit-
less had not Chief Mulligan and Con-
stable McGovern managed the ropes
that entrapped him. He was as shy
as A hawk and having Leen on the
alert for these officers that had been
on his track over a year he would
certairly have given them the slip had
police alded him It
learned that he was a prosperous
farmer and that he had owned a §10,-
04 fertilizing §lant at Bowers station
up to a year and a half ago when he
became entangled In a speculation
that cleaned him out, since which time
he has resorted to some questionable
schemes to get money to put himself
on his feet again He gave notes for
a large amount endorsed by promi-
nent people of Allentown, Reading
and Kutztown and obtained about
$30,000 after which he skinned out
and these endorsements have been de-
clared to be forgeries His $10,000
plant was disposed of for $2,600 to one
{of bis creditors and so there remained
inothing for the rest of his creditors
For this reason they have been hunt-
ing him ever since he left Reading
{After he arrived In Reading be sald
{he wae glad {t was over and he would
{be able to settle up all of his debts
itn full if they would give him a
{chance. He claims to own a 140 acre
farm at Sayre and says he has die
j passed of 1,400 dogs the past year. He
was committed to jall in default of
$10,000 bail but there is a disposition
{to give him a chance to settle matters
without prosecuting the case further

There Is a vast difference hetween |
the hams of today and the hams of |
years ago.
The old way of curing and smoking
was slow bul the resolt was fine. The
short cut methods of today of pro-
ducing a cured, smoked and ready for
the cook ham In twenty four hours
from batchering Is the cause of the
change In the flavor; the old Dutch
1eceipts and methods of “a month In|
the pickle, a week In the smoke house”
still prevail in the modern Weppner
plant at Ruffalo; the result Is that
anmatchable tasor of Cherry ham.
You will admit there Is odds In gin.
