Athens—The concert given by the Lulu Tyler Gates Company at high school hall last evening was one of the best we have listened to in a long time. Mrs Gates is an inspiration in herself. Her charniing personality, cheerful countenance, always lit up with bubbling ebuilitiona of souiful emotions, takes hold of an audience and holds them in its spell as long as she chooses to exert her powers Her selections were varied, embracing gems from the classic, devollonal, humorous and pathetic authors and In them all she was perfect In repre sentation, vocabulary and expression, so thal her characiers were real and we saw them before us while we lis- tened to their story. Such an evening is a delight and she commanded our admiration so well that we called her back five times after one pumber on the program ~~ Ruth Anderson Roehr, the violinist, Is a talented ar- tist. Her first number was the Vivace and Finale from Mendeisohn's famous Concerto, a composition that has world wide celebrity and is one of the best productions that professional ar- tists study for its grandest effects Mrs. Roehr gave it in perfect manner and showed a mastery over her in- strument that was astonishing and she so enraptured the audience that she was obliged to respond with an encore. Mr. Willlam Suyder, the plan- ist, was one of the best we have ever heard in Athens and we only regret that he did not oftener appear’ in the program. His Concert Paraphrase of Listz’s Rigoletto thrilled us with its harmonious effects, and he was oblig- ed to respond (0 an encore Mr Smith, the basso cantratrice, has an exceptionally fine volce and his songs were enjoyed very much and Le too was obliged to respond with an en- Altogether, it was such an en- tertainment that produces pleasant and delightful impressions that will remain with us for many a day. core BLACK OBJECT MAY BE MRS. LUNDIE'S BODY. It Was Seen Floating In the Chemung Yesterday Afternoon. Athens— Yesterday afternoon as Perry Mingos was standies near the Chemung river bank back of C. Hun- siker's house he saw an object float- iug down the river just above the Is- land and as it came nearer he was satisfied that it was a human form It was dressed in black and some of the clothing had filled with water pre- senting the appearance of a bag and other garments trailed behind It nearly lodged on the island but finally passed through the shore channel and as It came In front of him he was convinced that it was a human body He had no boat apd as It was about 300 feet out into the stream he could not reach It So he followed down to the bridge and out upon it to a point about 20 feet beyoud the first pler, looked down directiy upon it as It passed under him. He was sat- isfied that his suspicions were correct and at once was convinced that it was the body of the Lundie woman who disappeared several weeks ago He telephoned to Chief R. J. Mulligan who at ounce went to the spot but the body had passed down the river and 80 he telephoned to Milan, Ulster and Towanda to be on the lookout for the body. There is but little doubt but what this was the body of Mrs Lundle and it is hoped that it may be recovered soon C. U. We had such a visitor recently, and he came lugging an old cheap Instru- ment that has been made by an mis- take and has the label Antonius Stradi- varus on the inside This great worker produced a rev- elation in violin manufa-lure and worked at his trade up to the day of his death December 1% 1737, when he was 54 years old. lia best work was belween the years 16590 to the date of his death when ruments | passed into the hand of gons and all of these ha: e baught up by wealthy persons.
