The regular adjourned _ meeting of the Sayre borough which was to have been hed in the Packer hose rooms last night failed to materialize. The council was called to order for the purpose of taking up the sewer gues- tion but it developed that the contracts with the Lehigh Valley for permitting the sewer to pass under the tracks had not been returned to the council and therefore the borough attorney instructed the dads to not proceed further. The meeting was adjourned until! the 21st. at which time it is expected the matter will be ready to come up. HAYE YOU BOUGHT- WILDCAT MINING STOCK! The object is to In- duce workmen employed Iu the Sayre shops 0 go to Towanda to live on Account of cheap rent, cheap provis- ions, cheap clothing, cheap fuel, and cheapuess all around. The principal Inducewent, it is yu- derstood, is the price of-reut. [i is clalined that the Sayre workmen will be able to rent houses in Towanda nt least one-half cheaper than they can in Sayre It is sald that there are a number of houses in Towanda which will rent from $5 to $7 per oath, and that they are worth every cent of it There are also some houses to be found In Sayre which will rent for the same sum. They are also worth it. . Bul when It comes down to business the Sayre workmen who will take advantage of this ex- ceptional opportunity will find that il they get a house In Towanda with modern improvements they will pasas much for it in Towanda as they will in Sayre. Sayre workmen for the most part are accustomed to lving in houses which .are equipped with a bath room, furaace, etc, aud other cotveniences of the modern type. For houses of this character the rent var- les, according to the location, nutu- ber of rooms. etc Many of these houses are renting for $1500 per month, and in a central location, $15 v0 month is demanded it eX tremely doubtful if a house, equipped the manner described, will reat cheaper in Towanda Of course, If ithe workmen want to live In shacks in order to get cheap rent, Towanda will afford them excellent opportun ity. Another feature "Wo the proposed scheme which will of course appeal fo all workinen who want to live at the county seat is the t'me which will be consumed In golpg to and from work. In order to reach this place 10 go to work at seven o'clock it will be necessary for the train to leave that place at an early hour, and will therefore mean that the workmen will have to rise in the neighborhood of 4:30 o'clock in the morning In order to take the train. If be lives some distance from the station he may be compelled to get up even earlier. Of course he will eventually get used to this. At night it will be at least 7:30 o'clock before he gels home, and by the time he has performed his ablutions, eaten his supper, attended the chores about the house, let out the cat and locked the doors, he can go to bed and get a few hours sleep. He can spend his Sunday re- newing his acqualutances with his family, and improving his mind by reading Looks and magnzizes. In fact an arrangement of this sort will Le highly appreciated by the average man and there Is no doubt that a large number will take advantage of the opportunity once they are made ful- acquainted with the conditions There Is still another commenda- ble feature to the plan, which will at once recommend itself to the man in the overalls, Many of the houses which are for rent to Sayre workmen are situated on the hill side, and the workmen will thus be given plenty of leg exercise in going to and from the trains. The conditions will be $0 unlike those In Sayre that this particular feature will be a decided novelty and the workmen will not be slow In taking sdvantage of it In fact the scheme (5 a most de- per is lo Iv ouce the workmen wake up to the fact, Sayre will gradually decline un- til there will be nothing left SXcupt | descending heavenward. Towanda in| the meantime will become a city of the first-Olass and then may be to provide a trolley line instead of a number of dilapidated backs and biinses to carry Sayre workmen to and from the upper station HOSPITAL NOTES Marcellus Vargason, a laborer em ployed In ihe Athens bridge works was taken to the hospital this fore- noon sufféring from lunumerable Lrulses on the head, Lack and legs Varguson fell while attending to hin duties.
