Bullard, a x sormer Le high Valley employe, but who has ‘spending the past year in New York city, was committed to the Bradford county jail yesterday afternoon in default of $300 bail Bullard is uader indictment in this county oa a charge of wife beating, but the offense for which he was committed yesterday is wife deser~ tion and nom-support. Bullard was arrested at Athens yesterday afternoon by Constable Brougham on a warrant issued by Justice Carey, the complainant in the case being Mrs. Catharine Bul- lard, wife of the defendant. The Bullards have been married about 12 years and have a little daughter about 11 years old. About a year ago Mrs. Bullard complained to the authorities that she had been beaten by her husband. District Attorney Mills took the matter in hand and presented it tq the grand jury which convened in December last. An indictment was returned, but Bullard was unable to be found when wanted. He had gone to New York in the meantime. Itis alleged by his wife that he accom- panied another woman to the city. Some time ago, however, the woman returned to this section, going to Athens. A week or so ago Bullard came here, presumably to see the woman. He wentto Athens yesterday and whea ar- rested by Constable Brougham was found in the woman's company. Saturday a warrant was issued by Justice Carey on complaint of County Detective McGovern, charging Bullard with wife beating, and it was on this warrant that he was arrested yesterday. He was discharged on this charge as there was no evi lence to hold him, but was immediately rearrestsd on the charge of non-support, Afier an examination on the latter charge, in which he admitted the offense, Bullard was held to court in the sum of $300 bail. He was unsuc- cessful in securing a bondsman and was taken to the county jail on the evening train. Bullard is wanted by several other parties oa various charges, among them being one of obtains ing goods under false pretenses. TEMPORARILY INSANE Temporary insanity is given as the cause for the attempt at self- destruction made by B. W. Jens nings at Jenningsville, Md, on Suaday last. Mr. Jennings has been in ill health recently due to overwork and worry, but his friends had no intimation that he contemplated ending his life. Mr. Jennings did not succeed in killing | ee Xk himself, but inflicted injuries which will probably prove fatal. He has been removed to the hospital at Elkins, Va, and a Philadelphia LINING MK, LFS VT HE Disreputable Attack Made on Congressional Nominee By the Sayre Times Not Warrant- ed By the Facts. George W, Kipp, the Demoeratic rom- inee for Congress, visited Sayre on Bat- urday evening last. The Record did not mention the fact for the reason that Mr. Kipp» visit here was purelyofa private nature, and had no political aig- nificance whatever. The unreliable and disgruntled Bayre Times, however, in ils issue of last evening, tells its handfull 5t readers that the reception given to Mr. Kipp was chilly. “Chilly” is a fav- orite term with the mental athlete which handles ths helm of the Bayre Times, a paper which Las long since passed into innozuous desauetude so far as anything that would even savor of reliability is conceru?d., The Times unblashingly says that Mr, Kipp “made his visits to] several saloons and hotels accompanied by ‘some’ of the sore-headed Republicans knowa as ‘booze comedians,’ and a very small following of Democrats.” As a matter of fact, however, while he was in Bayre several prominent business men, among them belong men whoare members of Sayre's churches, and who stand high in satial circles, mot Mr. Kipp and gave him a haarty liandshake, but at no time was hs in the company of “boozs artista” or other un lesirable citizens, with whom the genius of ths Bayre Times appears to bs 3s) famillar. The gentlemen who have besa referred to as “barrcom coms, edians” will probably resent the insalt when the proper time arrives. The in- salt was gratuitous, and entirely worthy of its source, The favorable seatiment toward Me. Kipp which prevails in Sayre is too well known fo need comment, Volers are deserting the Lilley camp by the score and coming oat for the causs of Kipp and reform. Therefore it Is not nezes- sary for Mr. Kipp to coaduct a cam- paign strewn with half pints and free drinks. He will leave that for the man whois sopdaetiag his own canvass, A ——— PATHER UNLODKED FOR Radically departing from its usual custom, the Sayre Times ip its yester. day's issue admits that there is an hon- est seatiment In favor of reform in this district. This is indeed an admission which was wholly unlooked for, and when the source from which itemanated is taken into consideration there are these who will begin to look for the slawning of the Milleniam, for an admis- sion on the part of the Sayre Daily Times is something that should be made a matter of record and preserved in a secure place, where the moths can not destroy nor thieves break in and steal, This is the first instance on record where the Dally Times was ever known to admit anything, once it had taken a stand on a question in which the public Is intercsted. Bat now that it is con- ceded that there is a sentiment in favor of reform, what is going to be done about it? Will those who believe that politics should be purified and re- formed continue to vote for Lilley and the gang, or will they cast their ballots for Kipp? The answer Is asy. Kipp will receive the unqualified support of every citizen who is in favor of clearing up the political atmosphere. A vote for Lilley is a vote for the gang.
