PETERSBURG, Sept. 12 A ref- ugee from Siedice, Interviewed bere, tells the following story “I was staylug Saturday at the Ku- pleckl hotel in Siedice. Suddenly, at 9 o'clock in the evening, 1 heard two shots which were at once followed by a volley. In a few moments a number of Jewish women and children rushed into the hotel, pursued by soldiers. “The shootiug coutinued for an hour and then came to an end. Then the only noise from the streets was the crylog and moaning of the wounded At midnight several soldiers passed the bouse sloging martial songs. 1 learned that troops had been searching houses In an effort to discover two members of the terrorist band “To this end they went through the Wiktorja hotel and pillaged the wine room. They got drunk rapidly and, coming out on to the streets, began wholesale murder aud plunder. “At 2 o'clock Sunday morning ter- rorists who were defending a house on Plenkna street threw a bomb at the soldiers. Batteries were at once brought Into play and bombarded houses on Plenkna and Warsaw streets, The Kupleck! hotel, where 1 was staying, was destroyed. Refugees were fleeing through the streets, and as they ran the soldiers were constant ly firlog volleys at them, “Il ran with the others and managed to reach a church In safety. Here 300 fugitives, most of them wounded, al ready had congregated. This was ‘¢t 4 o'clock Bunday morning. I had passed down Sokolowka and Polvwa streets and found that the market place bad been burned. “At the end of two days lack of food and water forced the refugees In this church to leave it. We made our Way through streets covered with debris. There were many dend bodies and wounded persons lying about. We finally reached the village of Roskossz.” This refugee would not give his name, as he feared persecution at the bands of the police. Were Instructed For Dix, | GLENS FALLS N.Y. Howe in Loomis Opera House on Saturday, Sept. 15. The day was a beautiful one and therefore the pictures are of the finest photographic quality, Not the least interesting part of them are those parts showing the vast throngs of spectators, provin- cials, citizens, foreigners, the dis- play of troops and body guards in historic uniforms. The streets are shown in their most gorgeous decorations. Heading the proces- sion are the nineteen curious gala coaches of the lords and ladies of the court, each drawn by eight white horses gaily caparisoned. Next in order the pictures reveal the twenty-two state coaches con- taining the time-honored grandees of Spain. Then comes the crown coach occupied by King Alfonso and their to the throne. Closely following this is the dainty coach bearing Princess Ena, At the cathedral, the historic at- tendants of the Spanish kings and ecclesiastics add not only a splens dor, but a brilliancy and interest to these great scenes that cannot pos- sibly be imagined. Senators, depu- ties and the diplomatic corps still heighten the effect. LOCAL MENTION M.
