in the valley next week. A carnis
val company is to appear in Sayre,
a repertoire company at the Loom-
is, and the park theatre will also
furnish a fine attraction. Amuse-
ment lovers can take their choice.
Illegal train riders are making
life burdensome for railroad
men. The Lehigh Valley and
other roads throughout the east
swarm with tramps and hoboes of
all descriptions, and the trainmen
in most instances are powerless to
prevent their securing free trans-

WANT PROTECTION
Washington Promises That It
Will Be Furnished
Shortly after the attemp* was
made to drive the Italian residents
out of Sayre the foreigners com-
municated with the Italian consul,
who is located at Philadelphia, The
situation was laid before the consul
and he took the matter up with
the Italian ambassador at Washing-
ton, and the latter in turn called it
to the attention of the Uaited States
authorities. This morning the
Italians in Sayre received a reply
from the ambassador in which he
goes over the situation and gives
theni assurance that they will be
prot in the future, The am-
bassador’ says that if the local
authorities are umable to provide
protection the United States will,
even if it is necessary to call out
the troops. There is no likelihood,
however, of the trouble here reach-
ing a point where it will be neces
sary to call upan the federal
authorities. Thus far Sayre has
been able to control those who are
desirous of driving the foreigners
out, and itis not thought that there
will be another outbreak. Should
there be another attempt at mob
violence those who participate in it
will find the local police authorities
amply prepared, and it is up to the
law abiding citizens to give the
officers all the support that they
need,

LEHICH STATIONS ROBBED
The building which the Lehigh
has been using for a station at East
Waverly since the old depot burned
was broken open some time during
Saturday night or yesterday morn~
ing by unknown parties. Entrance
was gained by breaking open a
window in the south end. A num-
ber of round trip tickets between
and a few one way tickets to Lock-
wood was the only plunder secured
by the thieves.
Last night the Lehigh station at
Mehoopany was also broken open
but 0. va was stolen except a
pair of shoes,
