The senatorial convention is be- ing held at Binghamton today to nominate a candidate to succeed Senator Hinman. It is very likely that he will succeed himself. Miss Louise Beardslee of Pine street will accompany her uncle, E E. Beardslee, who has been visiting here for some time, to his home at Cleveland, where she will make her home. An old man named Mclatyre was arrested last night for vagrancy and plead guilty this morning before Judge Hoagland. He claimed to have a job at Sayre and was allowed to go on condition that he leave town. GREAT BIG FAIR Waverly—The Hemlock Palace has been completed, and on Sept. 10, next Monday, the Odd Fellows will open their fair which promises to be the biggest thing of the kind that has ever been held in this sec- tion. The building is located on Broad street at the foot of Johnson street and is 70 by 80 feet, and has a roof over it so nome need be afraid of the weather. There will be any amount of merchandise of all kinds and descriptions, and five door prizes will be given away each night. The Waverly Boys’ band will give a concert each evens ing. The admission is only ten cents, and the fair will continue from the 10th to the 15th. FOOT BALL OPENS Waverly—The se rst foot ball League met at Owego last evening. Delegates from nearly every voting district in the county were present, and the following delegates to the State convention to be held in New York city, oa Tuesday, Sept. 11 were elected Simon Zs mer, Edward Leaveaworth, Wm, N. Sweeney, Fred Ford, F, A. Murray and Charles Dunn. A committee consisting of Simon Zausmer, W. N. Sweeney, F. A. Genung, Fred Ford and Chas. Dunn was appointed to make up the county ticket, and a meeting will be called in about two weeks to pass upon the recommendations of this committee. THE VILLAGE DOG LAW Waverly—As the village officials have sgnified their inteation to en- force the village dog law it might be well for all who are owners of canines to become acquainted with the ordinance. The present law provides that every dog shall have a tag, which costs 50 cents, that a description of the dog shall be filed with the village clerk, and that the dog shall not be allowed to run loose from June 15 to September 15 without a muzzle, In case of failure to comply with these res quirements, the police officers of the town are directed to kill the dog whenever it is found at large, and the owner of the dog is also subject to a fine of £5.00.
