NOTHING DOING “Nothin’ doin’ in the fishing line,” said a prominent local angler last night. “The fishing had been good for several days when the heavy rains up the river raised the Susquehanna and Chemung about a foot, and since then the fish won't bite.” There have beea a number of local sportsmen out after bass this week but they have returned with empty creels, The mud is now clearing from the river, how ever, and the fishing should be good again in a few days unless there is another heavy storm, FRACTURED ARM Clinton Knapp of Olive street, the well known Lehigh Valley en- gineer, suffered a comminuted frac. ture of the right forearm early this moming while running a light en. gine from Easton to Mauch Chunk. The rails have been bought and the cars are being built. This popus larity is attributed to the preceding fame of the book that extended from ocean to ocean, and that the play is in itself the most genuine piece of rural life ever given to lovers of bucolic drama. The simple, pure charm of the book is distinctly preserved in the play. The characters are drawn so close to life that it requires an eflort to be convinced that they are not real. They are just such types as are found in every New England village and portrayed by actors who are in perfect sympathy with their roles. In fact, it is a case of human na- ture, Another thing that the people evidently appreciate is not having their pleasure of the artistic simple ness of the play marred by mawk- ish scenes and sloshy incidents. The amusing scenes—and those are what the play is made up of mainly—contain just wholesome good nature, compelling laugh after laugh, and the sentimental parts consist of that kind of refined pathos that plays upon the heart- strings with no discordant note. The company representing this beautiful play carries with it all the equipment including four large sets of scenery built especially for the production, all the lighting effects and all the properties. Theatre goers are looking forward to the treat in store for them when the play comes here on Tuesday, Sept 4, at the Loomis Opera House, Waverly. OAK GROVE PARK Oak Grove Park held another large gathering last night to wit- ness the second production of “The Minister's Sweethearts,” as played by the Partello Stock Co.
