FLOCK OF FOWLS OT VERY DRUM ‘This May Seem Strange, But ‘Tis True Nevertheless. Over in West Sayre there lives a man who is exceedingly fond of chickens, particularly those of the blooded vanety. He has succeeded [in acquinng a flock of birds that | that would do credit to a genuine | fancier and the flock is the pride of | his life Recently he discovered, however, that the coop in which they were confined had become in fested with vermin. Now vermin simply makes lifc miserable for the feathered tribe and unless some thing of a heroic nature is done the birds will pine away and event- ually become dead ones, so to speak. It was suggested to the owner of the fowls that turpentine would remove the vermin from the face of the earth if it were liberally sprinkled over the walls of the coop. Accordingly he procured a {gallon or so of the fluid and one night after the birds had retired, with the help of his better half he proceeded to saturate the coop. In a [ew minutes afterward the vermin began to writhe in death agony and the fowls also became very drunk. They staggered about and cackled and appeared pleased with the sithation. Some of them be- came very much intoxicated, so so that they collapsed. Others, however, would walk a few steps and then fill down. Oae fine much emitted a loud cook-a doodle do, which almost said “jush one more 'for'ey close up” Finally the whole flock went to sleep and this morning they looked heartily ashamed of themselves. The owner of the fowls says that the next time he uses turpentine to kill vermin he will do something else, LOCAL NEWS ~~ Wanted, by the Waverly, Sayre Company, a good second hand two- horse power electric motor, 500 volts 83 eod 4t The trolley cars did a big busi ness yesterday, The day was hot and sultry and many boarded the cars in order to enjoy a cooling breeze, The cultry weather of the past few days is to be displiced by a cooler vaniety according to the res ports of the government weather bureau.
