Athens —The following talent
has been secured by Prof. Rogers
for the high school lecture course
this season: Gillian, the world
renowned humorist; Johan M.
Driver, the lecturer; the Lulu
Tybee Gates Concert Company ;|and
the Brockway Ladies’ Concert
Company ; the Schildkret Hungas
nan Orchestra. The latter is one
of the famoug orchestras that only
visit the large cities and Mr. Rog-
ers has only been able to secure
them at great expense. They are
composed of eight artistic musis
cians, and a lady singer will accom-
pany them.
KEYSTONE CAPITOL ACCEPTED.

HARRISBURG, Pa, Aug. 16.—The
new state capitol was accepted by the
capitol building commission from the
contractors and turned over to the
board of public grounds and buildings,
of which Governor Pennypacker is
president. The commission announced
at the close .of ils meeting that It

$4,000,000 appropriated for the build:

mission made the final payment to the
contractors, an aggregate of $3,508,650
The commission will have to settle
with Edwin A. Abbey and other artists
for the decorations before closing its
accounts. The bullding is practically
finished and Is now being made ready
for the decoration ceremonies on Oct. 1.
Tbe present capitol takes the place of
the old statehouse, which was de
stroyed by fire February, 18087. The
bronze doors containing the heads of
the members of the commission and
other distinguished Pennsylvanians,
over which there had been some con-
troversy, were not rejected.
Fatally Hurt at Bargain Counter.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo, Aug. 10.-—Mrs.
Susan Welland was probably fatally
injured and many other shoppers were
burt in a bargain day rush at a de-
partinent store. Tue chief of police
ordered the store closed, but rescinded
the order when he found that the ten
policemen on duty there had the situa
tion under control, A pumber of wom-
en were carried out of the crowd over
come by heat, each In a fainting con-
dition, but all were able to go home
without medical attention except Mrs.
Welland.
Former Congressman Dead,
NEW YORK, Aug. 16 --News was
received in Jersey City of the death of
George B. Fielder, ex-congres=inan and
ex register of Hudson county, N. J, on
Tuesday in the Catskills. He had been
ill a long tiwe. He was a civil war
veteran.
