Sawtelle, who has been manager of the Valley Telephone Company since that company was organized, has resigned He handed in his resignation last Thursday, and it will go into effect about August ro. , Mr. Sawtelle has been very suc cessful in the management of the telephone company, and has built it up so that it is doing a large, successful business, and has dig~ tanced all competitors in the terri~ tory that it covers, He resigns his present position to take up a more desirable one with the Manhattan Co-operative Real Estate company. This com- pany has large holdings in the vi. cinity of New York city, and does a business that extends over a large section of the country, Mr. Sawtelle will not leave Sayre but will continue to reside here, and will manage its business in this vicinity. No announcement has yet been made as to who will succeed to the management of the telephone company. They are chained out of doors and are in plain View of the cars when the stop is made at the Tunkhannock depot. This morning the bears broke loose and in attempting to recapture them Hiram Ross was badly bitten. The bear grabbed him in the calf of the leg with its teeth, tearing it almost entirely loose from the bone, severing an artery. He was taken to the hos pital at Wilkes-Barre.
