Many Matters of More or Less
Lengthy Session
The regular monthly meeting of
the Sayre borough council was
held last might. The session con
tinued until a late hour and many
matters pertaining to streets, lights,
garbage, etc, were taken up and
mn the majority of instances diss
posed of. Lacey, Hulett, Samuels,
Dobel, Hassler, Hass, and Adamy
answered to roll call, and after the
reading of the minutes a petition
presented by the managers of Oak
Grove Park, asking for consent to
lay a track from the intersection of
Lake street and Keystone avenue
to the entrance of the park was
read, and on account of the strenu-
ous objection on the part of resi-
dents residing along Lake street,
the petition was tabled without dis
cussion
E. V. B. Mason called the atten
tion of the council to the damage
done by the telephone company
during its recent operations in
Sayre, and the council decided that
the company should pay $25 to
make the borough good

Both hive been notified to build
walks in front of their premises,
and they stated that when they
were certain where the lines were
they would lay walks and not be-
fore. They declared that their lots
had “shrunk” and that the corner
stakes had disappeared so that they
were unable to tell where to begin
laying a walk and where to leave
off No action was taken
C E Loetzer called the attention
of the council to the fact that there
were no sidewalks in front of Nos
411, 413, 414 and 421 on South
Elmer avenue between Chemung
and Lincoln streets. The matter
was referred to the street com.
mittee
Mr. Loetzer also brought up the
garbage question and insisted that
the council take steps to compel
property owners to remove ashes
which contained garbage likely to
become a menace to public health
A resolution was passed instructing
the chief of police to notify derelict
properly owners to remove their
ashes.
An appropriation of £25 was
made to repair the band stand in
the hospital park. The band stand
ts going to decay and Burgess
Cross, who attended the meeting,
was of the opinion that something
should be done to preserve the
structure. The street committee
will have charge of the work,
Dennis O'Neil stated to the
council that it was time that the
Traction company fulfilled its
promise to place the tracks in the
center of North Elmer avenue He
insisted that the council take action
in the matter, it was explained,
however, that the company was ex-
pecting the arrival of go pound
rails which are intended for this
avenue, and when they come the
work of shifting the tracks will be
commenced, :

the petition of Sayre borough for
road improvement had been re-

Acetylene gas plant which is to be
established in Sayre, appeared bes
fore the council last night and
asked for a further extension of
time, with reference to the date of
acceptance, Mr. Rush stated that
the plant will be much larger than

short. He assured the council
that the project would go through
and that the plant would be in-
stalled He also stated that the
work of organizing the company
was going on with great rapidity
and that local capital was taking
