Jesse Spaulding, wife of Hon. Jesse

Athens Presbyterian church will
be held on the evening of Wednes-
day, May 2
F.L Gafley, who got up a direc~
tory of the Athens churches about
three years ago, has been in town
lor the past ten days and returned
to New York last evening.
The Lady Rebekahs had a good
attendance at their poverty social
last evening. They always have
their entertainments arranged in
good style and are very successful.
A liberal offering for the San
Francisco sufferers was made at
the Presbyterian church, Sunday.
It is suggested that money for this
object be left at the postoffice and
at the two banks.
A meeting of the vestry of Trin-
ity church was held last evening
and the following officers were
elected: Senior warden, F. T. Page;
junior warden, W, T, Page; secre-
tary, Joseph M. Ely.
John H. Scoville of Towanda has
been on a visit to Mattie Bowman
in Slaterville and yesterday re-
turned to Athens where he was the
guest of J. O Bowman, resuming
his journey homeward this morn-
ing. is
Milton Evans of Utica, N.Y,
and Milo Hubbard of Troy, have
been the guests of Bert Sumner
in Smithfield a week, and they all
returned to Cazenovia seminary
this morning, after spending the
night with Athens friends.
JF, Reynolds lost furniture to
the amount of $125 by the fire
Sunday morning. His furniture
was insured in his house, but as it
had been removed to the building
that burned, the insurance was void
and is a dead loss to him.
