DOCTOR'S NEW SICH Nearly everyone who has passed along Desmond street today has had his or her attention called to a sign hanging from one of the win- dows in Dr. Higgin's office rooms. The sign hangs from the end of a fishing rod, and on one side is printed the following: “Just mar- ried, don't bother me, Dr. Hig- gins.” On the reverse side appears the words: “Just married; on my honeymoon. Dr. Higgins" The sign has caused no ead of amuse- ment for the friends of the doctor who are somewhat piqued from the fact that he fooled them by getting married at a different hour from that which they had been given to understand the ceremony would be perlormed. rem co FRACTURED HIS ARN John Haas, night watchman at the round house for the Lehigh, slipped and fell last night, sustain- ih NTO SEA Elmira Advertiser Prints An Un- certain Story to That Effect This Morning This morning's Elmira Adver- tises in a special edition prints the startling announcement that the city of Honolulu, Hawaii island, is gradually sinking into the sea and that the 25,000 inhabitants are lost. The Advertiser's story spread quickly about Sayre, and informas tion concerning the new calamity was cagerly sought. Up to the hour of going to press the stock exchange at Waverly had received no news of the sinking of the island, nor had the Western Union at this place. The Advertiser's story was based on a wireless mes- sage which is said to have been received by a ship passing at a point several hundred miles distant from the island, but beyond this fact nothing is known. : The Waverly offi-e of the Bing~ hamton Press thiis afternoon is dis- playing a bulletin received by cable that two days ago the Sandwich Islands had experienced an earth- quake shock lasting six minutes, A sccond cable message states that the shock did not consume so much time. The details as to whether the shock did any damage arc missing. MUSE CUB READERS FIRST-CLASS MUS At the Elegant New Residence of Mr, and Mrs. James West Last Night The elegant new home of Mr. and Mrs. James West on South Wilbur avenue was the scene of a decidedly pretty occasion last night when the Junior Etude Music Club, composed of little girls, under the capable direction of Miss Ethel Holt and Miss Clara Hevener, ren- dered a delightful program in the presence of about sixty invited guests who came from Sayre, Athens, Waverly and Ulster. The house was tastily decorated with pink and white carnations, the colors of the club, and the program rendered was of an exceedingly high and entertaining character The little misses, none of whom are over twelve years old, acquitted themselves in a most commendable manner and received unstinted aps platuse. After the rendition of the program clegant refreshments were served, and all present cnjwe! a delightful social hour. The musical program is to be repeated by the members of the club at the Ladies’ Library Club meeting on Tuesday afternoon DOCS POISONED The dog poisoner has made his annual spring appearance. Two or three days ago George Norris, who resides in Milltown, had a valuable dog poisoned, which died in spite of vigorous efforts to save the animal. - Yesterday a dog be- longing to George Wilson was given poison by some unknown person. The brute’s condition was noticed in time and remedies were given which proved effective. The miscreants who are doing this work are unknown, but if they are apprehended criminal prosecutions will likely follow.
