wife of A. C. Arnold, died at her
home 109 North street, this
morning at about 6 o'clock,
alter a short illness. Her
maiden name was Lucy E
{ Lent, and she was born in Rome
| township, March 17, 1845. Her
| father, Smith Lent, was one of
the pioncer preachers of that region
} |and a noted divine who had a very
{greet influence in the civilizing
{agencies of early times. Deceased
was married to Addison C. Arnold
Nov. 18, 1863 She was a person
of fine social character, and in
church and society she was always
found among the workers in the
benevolent agencies of the com
munity. They removed to Athens
in 1884, where they have resided
ever since. She was a member of
the Methodist church and also of
the Rebecca lodge and the W. C
T. U. The societies and church
always found her wherever work
was to be done and have come to
regard her as one of their most
ardent supporters. Her death
causes profound sorrow in the
whole community. She leaves be-
side her husband the following
children: Mrs. Leon K Lane,
Athens; Elmer Arnold, Bumpville,
Bernard Arnold, Vawter; Mrs, U.
J. Raub; Athens. Mrs. Arnold,
although she has been a sufferer
for a long time, she was attending
{to her duties about the house yes-

usual. Later in the day she was
prostrated and her symptoms be-
came so alarming that her chil-
dren were telephoned for, and
they all arrived at her bedside be-
fore she breathed her last,
Her family were very dear to her,
and it must have cheered her
dying hour to have them close to
her. A short funeral service will
be held from her late home tos
morrow evening, Rev. Dr. Simp-
son officiating, and the remains
will be taken to Bumpville Sun-
day morning, where the main sers
vice will be held, Rev. Dr.
