SOMETHINC BRAND NEW
A Soap agent uses a “Black
Hand” ruse to advertise a washing
compound. First he sends to a
prospective customer a postal card
which bears these words: “You
have four days more.” A little
later the customer receives another
card on which is scrawled, “Three
days more.” On the fourth day
the drummer puts in appearance
and then the customer, who
by this time is in a highly
nervous state, realizes that he
is up against a brand new ad.
vertising scheme.
REAL WINTER
When the groundhog sallied
forth yesterday morning from his
winter's lair to survey the meteoro-
logical conditions he cast his eye
on his shadow and likewise got a
taste of real winter. The weather
man’s guess that we were to have
a cold wave was verified, and the
article furnished the nearest
approach to winter that has thus
far been experienced, The mercury
touched the lowest mark so far
this season.
