A son was born yesterday after-
noon to Mrs. R B Park, and he
has been named Robert Bruce
Park, Jr, to perpetuate the name
of his father, who recently died.
Mrs. Frank Little sent their
white dog to Tunkhannock on the
early morning train, He was
labelled and checked through, and
seemed to anticipate the journey
with great pleasure.
The next national encampment
of the Union Veteran legion will
be held in Columbus, Ohio. This
will be the twenty-first annual and
preparations are being made to
entertain the comrades in a royal
manner.
Ralph Osborne returned to
Schenectady this week, where he
has charge of the largest electric
locomotive in the world The
number of these locomotives, and
they find that they answer the
purpose admirably. In time elec-
tricity will take the place of steam
on all of our railroads.
The Athens W. C T, U. will
meet at the home of Mrs. Osborne,
corner of Willow and N. Main
streets, Friday afternoon at 2:30
Mrs. Osborne, the superintendent
of Mother's meeting will have
charge of the meeting at which
time a question box will be con-
ducted that will be very helpful

mander, made a most eloquent and
impressive speech on assuming the
chair in which he lauded the brav-
ery and fortitude of the private
soldier. Comrade Blair served in
the ranks of the
Bucktail regiment that saw hard
fighting from beginning to end, and ||
he knows all the hardships of the ||
Union soldier.

evening to Whitney & Warner and
they will get their machine here at
once and commence operations on
the lands leased by the Athens
Mining company in the vicinity of |
the Barney Kain farm. The con-
tract specifics that work is to begin
within three weeks. The well is |
to go down 1500 feet and if oil or
gas is not reached at that point]
