A large number of yit- nesses from this vicinity were sworn yesterday and their testi- mony taken. Judge F. A. Bell of Waverly appeared in the interest of several property owners whose lands will be effected by the proposed right of way. Attorney F. E. Hawkes appears for the W.S. & A. Traction Com- pany and E. D. Sebring, Esq. of the firm of Howard & Sebring, appears for the highway commis- sioner of the town of Barton. It is rather uncertain whether the Erie Railroad Company will fight the proposed line. It is un- derstood that Mr. Stanchfield, ap~ pearing for the Erie, will ask for an adjournment of two or three weeks until the railroad interests decide on their course of action. Ps DID NOT VIOLATE LAW Waverly—In regard the article appearing in the Record yesterday concerning the struggle that a member of the police force had with a prisoner, we wish to say that the officer in killing his charge did not commit any act outside the law and was not acting in his capacity as a peace officer, but had merely turned butcher. The troublesome captive was a bull that he had purchased at Ridgebury. —————— to FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL. Closing Stock Quotations.
