JGHTFULLY | Struck in the Fice by An Over- hangiog Running Board Which Had Become Detached Train Steven Milheim, one of the Le- high Valley's best enginemen, met with what is believed to have been a fatal accident yesterday afternoon in an unusual manner near Lehighton. Milcheim was running a fast freight and had his head out of the cab window when he was struck full in the face by the running board on a box a passing freight train. The run- ning board had jarred loose and the end was hanging over the side of the car next to the other track Milheim's train came rushing past ata high rate of speed, when the hanging board struck him in the face, frightfully bruising and lacer- ating the mouth and nose into an unrecognizable mass. He fell to the floor of the cab in an uncon- scious condition and later a picce of the jaw bone was found lying on the floor. He was rushed to the hospital but it is feared his injuries are of a serious nature. The injured engineer is well known in Sayre and the story of car of day, although many of the details are missing. CANTON STORE ROBBED A man who gave his name as Frank Jones is under arrest at Can- ton charged with having burglar ized the clothing store of Baker, Ronan & Co. in that place. The robbery was committed early Tues day morniag 9nd the thief secured a number of suits and overcoats (besides ransacking the money drawer. The large safe in the store was unmolested. Jones has been ' working near Canton and had been in the store several times. He registered at the hotel in Canton on Monday night but did not occupy the room to which he was assigned. T0 REOPEN OLD BRANCH The Lehigh Valley is making preparations to reopen the old Highland branch of the road, which has been abandoned for several years. The reopening of the branch will give the company a better outlet for coal lands which were purchased with the Coxe in- terests. Eight miles of new track will be built which will connect the old branch with the main line at Bear Creek Junction.
