Athens Borough Council Refus-
es to Recognize Reasons of
Burgess and Petitions of Peo
ple in Trolley Matter.
Athens— The regular mecting
of the borough council was held at
aty hall last evening, all of the
members being present except Mr
Cheney. The veto of
burgess Macafee was presented giv
ing his reasons for withholding his
approval of Ordinance 6 granting
a franchise to the Athens, Sayre &
South Waverly Street Railway
company to build their road
through the streets of the borough

the borough recommending that

opportunity for anyone in the room
to be heard whereupon Hon. Mial
Lilley arose and stated that the
persons standing back of the com-
pany he who were
thoroughly responsible and that
they were acting in good faith and
if they would pass this ordinance
to night that they would have an
engineer on the route between here
and Waverly at once and ‘would
go on with the work without un-
| necessary delay. But if Athens
| borough sustains your mayor we
cannot go on with it and we can
not build the road to Tow anda as
we intended.
Mr. Lilley then stated that the

antee that the borough of Athens
will ever receive one cent in return
for it. They tell you that they

the same corporation as the old
linc of Waverly, Sayre and Athens
street car company, What to

on the new line. Then you will
get nothing from them in this way
