DR. J. W. HOOD'S TRUSS.
For the inutaediap "Relief Aind Radical Cure of
Hernia or Rupture.
DR. ENOS CHICILES'TER has purchased the
right of vending and applying Dr. J. W.
Hood's Truss in Suhuylkill county. this Truss
has received the Sanction of the moat respectable
'Surgeons 4 physicians of Philadelphia, by which
a radical cure ofthis disease, an espectation that
had nearly been abandoned as hopeluss, is ac.
complished with almost absolute certainty and
.8
with perfect safety. Upwards of a h di ed.eases i
treiited within ii. short time in this d win.
ity, are known to be permanently c -
.. and the
patients can now dispense with the, cof any
instrument. A success like this is unexampled
in the-amide ofSurgery. This instrument, and
the method of petHecting a radical cure of Hernia,
are now offered to those afflicted with this trou
blesome complaint.
He proposes it with confidenrsi for the treat
ment
of this disease, and as meeting every indi
cation on correct surgical principles for its radi.
cal cure. The tresses heretofore employed mere.
ly palliate the symptoms of the disease, they
rarely ever effect a radical cure, and i hence must
be continually worn by the patient; olden greatly'
to his annoyance. After the cure by the'present
apparatusis effected, all instruments areditsco
-
tinned.
This Truss, with 'its appendages, ton beSrn
at any age, and by both sexes, without inttxtup
lion of business.
Gentlemen are referred to the follpwing mem
bers of the prolbssion, relative to this instrument
and its claims in effecting radical' cures.

DOCTOR Hoorn
EMI
:Dear Sir:—From the uniform failure of all
the pusses I have ace*, and of the treatment em
ployed for hernia in procuring a radical cure by
safe means, I had abandoned all„expectation of
seeing this desirable object reached. I must con
fess, that your apparatus and method of treating
hernia, has, I believe, accompliahed this desidei
arum, and the disease is rendered not only man
ageable, but in the greater portion of cases cura
ble by the processes of art.
The principle of your treatment and ofthe up.
motion of your apparatus is based to the physiol
ogy of tl.e.tiSsues, and is one of the soundest in
theoretical and practical surgery.
There is nothing empirical in your proceedings
or your instruments.. They are the apphcation
of." well established principle °four science to the
production of a specific effect. Professional in
struction, skill end tact are necessary to attain it
with certainty. The instruments atone, without
appropriate management and the adoption of their
action to the individual accOrding to. the constitu
tional and other peculiarities of each ease, would
prove of little utility, or might eyed defeat the in
tention, of the treatment, .
From the remarkable success that has attend
ed. your treatment, and the cases of decided cures
that have come under my 'own observation, giv
ing the sanction of facts in support orthe scienti.
fic, principle, I have no hesitation in regarding
your apparatus and method of treatment as estab
lished in medical science. With consideration
and respect, truly yours, •

rupture, will do Well to call on gle subscriber

than in hot weather. • f
