This conclusion being the result of experience, there will ne play:ally. be many steam engines required hi this section of coux t rt a very few years, and our enterprising fellow citizens, fl a aod, itpnydei, are prepared to meet our wants in this line of :businessi et their establishment lately erected in Pottsville, where they are at precut entingett.in constructing three steam engines for various purposes in this. immediate vicinity. We think it may be interesting to those engaged in the trade - , and also to Adhere, to bring into view the. whole amount derivedl from only one of the numerous mineral products- or our stale, , which, although , yet in its infancy, is rapidly advancing into a, business of vast importance, in which large investments Of capi-1 tul have been made, and even at the present moment employ a great number of men. • The following tattle, showing the amount of Anthracite and Bituminous Coal, produced from - the mines in Pennsylvania, in the term of one year, and the different places where it was mi ned, has been taken from the mot authentic sources; but as the statements for some of the places_ were made out more than a ,year since, the amount at the present tune will somewhat exceed that shown in the table. Schpylkill, Lehigh and Lackawanna Pinegrove Mined on the...Susquebann.a - Consumed in and about Pittsburg , Shipped from Pittsburg south and east consumed at the Salt Works in western Peruen. Cleared from tiolidaysburg . The amount above stated to be consumed in rittvherg and its suburbs, may appear to many persons at first sight to be. exag genited, but a reference to the filet that about two years since, there was in-that city and vicinity_ no less than 90 steam engines in operation in the various mahufattories of iron; steel, glass, white lead, flour, leather, cotton, salt, brass, oil, dec. . There are on the Allegheny, Kiskeminetas, Conemaugh, Crooked Creek,,Malioning, Saw-mill Rim, B riish Creek, Sewick ly, Yonhiogany, and Monoirgahele, abotit.9o salt-manufaeluring establishments; and `a knowledge of the existence of these este blishmenti we deem sufficient to remove all doubts of the amount of coal consumed in the productiOn of this important article of domestic economy._ . .- . For this interesting information respecting Western Pennsyl vania, we are indebted to the report of R. C. Taylor, a practical Engineer ayd geologist, for the Btessburg Rail Road Company. - The. dam on 'fumbling Run - spoken of in our last report as a bout to he built by the Navigation Company, it is expected will be completed in all of next' month, and with the one that has al ready been erected on the same stream, will contain about 74,000,000 cubic feet of water, and will increase the capacity of the canal to a much greater extent than any one, upon women tart' reflection, would be induced to believe. The Navigation Company appear to be fully aware of the im portance of the coat trade, having made many important improve.. meats in their canal since its first - opening, and we learn that they intend the•continuance of this course, also the reduction of tolls, or any other measure they may deem necessaryl9 enable the colliers of this region to-go into the market in him competi tion with those -of any other section of country.
