The United States Gazette states that

So popular is the measure for rechar
tering the Bank ofthe United States by
the logislature of this state, that we do'not
believe there could be ibund'twenty indi
viduals in this borough who would be wil
ling to come out and openly oppose it.
A town nteeting was h7ld at Orwigs
burg on Wednesday evening last, of those
opposed to the recharter .of the Bank by
State—and we understand that a county
meeting is to be held at the Court goose
to-day. We venture to predict that it
will be a slim affair. • • We cannot believe
for one moment that The people of this
county can ba, induced 10_1:oppose a meas.
ure that will iplieve them from an.o.pPres
sive land tax, find which is so fraught with
the best interests of the Commonwealth.

House of Representatives of this state on
Friday last, byja vote of 57 to 30. Mr.
Conrad voted against the bill. The boners
