INVALID SOL-

Measures are now in hand which are
calculated, af'er the lapse of a few
months, to establish, on a grand scale,
the desi let attim a National Homo for
Inva'id Soldiers. The design is nn ad
miral) o one, snd is as follows : It is
well known that all efforts to obtain
voluntai') subscriptions sutlieient to erect
a S ildiers' Homo have been without
avail In furtherance ot the object,
however, the Legislature ot Pennsyl
vania have passed an net dated March G,
18h7. creating a corporation of which
Major Genera! George G. Meade is
president.and General Horatio G. Sickel
is treasurer, with tin ellieiont board of
supervisors, who have the power to dis
tribute to the holders of ceiliiic.ites a
largo number of immensely valuable
gifts, consisting of diamonds, pearls,
emeralds, rubies. &t., purchased from
citizens of the Sjtilhern States during the
rebellion, and which articles will soon be
exhibited in this city. By this scheme
it is confidently anticipated a largo fund
will bo oriated towards tho erection of
tho Home. A great feature of the of-
tair con-ists iu the fact that every pur
chaser of the certificates becomes a con-
tubutor to this National Home fund. and
at the same lime has a direct interest iu
tho distribution of tho rare gems men

THE REAL ANJptfllE SHAM.
The following resolutions, adopted
by a Kentucky convention recently, con
trasted with the sentiment of a Virgima
"ex-confed," aptly illustrates the Janus
faced politicians of tho South. For ex
ample, resolution No 2 of tho convention
reads :
2 We most solemnly declare a warm
ntlachiuenl to tho Union of the States,
under and pursuant to the Constitution,
by the ndopiioii ot which the Union was
effected, uud wo know of 110 better or
more ctl'tclu il way t maintaining and
perpetu iltng the Union than by uphold
ing and defending the Constitution,
winch is the bond of Union, by a faith
ful observance of the principles upon
whiuh tho Union is based, and by thu
cultivation of a feeling of friendship and
justice towards tha citizens ot our sister
Stales.
The real opinion is expressed as fol
lows :
I.
0, I'm n good old Rebel,
Now that's just what I nm
For this lair laud ot fresdoin
I don't care a d 11,
I'm glnd I Jit tiiiu it-
I only vi i-h wuM won
And I don't want 110 pin don
For anything I've done.
The preamble, as reported by the con
volition, reads as follows 1
'rut; ruiiMi.M.
1 Whki has, In nil Republics after
the convulsions of revolution,
when thu storm of passion has subsided
and lesson has been allowed again tj
give utterance to the wotdsot immutii
blu truth and justice, it has been deemed
proper to pauso and assert the true pi in
uiplu of government t Now, thercloro,
the Democracy ot Kentucky, iu conven
tion assembled, do solemnly declare thai
this con volition doth unequivocally ex
press a (inn resolution to maintain and
detent! tho Constitution of the United
Slates, and tho Constitution ot the State,
against every aggression, cither foreign
or domestic, and that the people of this
Slate will support tho Goveratneut of
the Um ed Shales in t, I .ensures war.
ranted and sanctioned by the Constitu
tion ot the UiiiU d Slates.
The poet expresse his opinion of the
Government, the Constitution, Bud the
u untry, in j.io following clear language
II I bates tho Constitution,
This "great Uepublio" too ;
I hates the Freeilmcn's Bu-ro,
In uniform of blue (
I hales the nasty eagle,
With all his brags and fuss j
I bates the Yankee nation, ,
I hates 'em uniss and witsa.
Resolution No. 3, as reported by the
convention, says the Government is one
ot restricted powers, with no right to
carry out auy but expross powers, or
thoso nooessarily implied. Tho poet
cuts it much shorter, and il decidedly
more expressive :
III.
I hates the Yaukoo nation,
And every thing they do ;
I bates the Declaration
Ot Independence, too ;
I hates the "glorious" Union
'Tis dripping, with our blood ;
1 hates their striped banner
I "Jit it" all I could.
Resolution No. 7 declares against
trials by tho military. Tho poet ex
presses his opinion on military affairs
much more briefly and expressively :
IV.
I followed old Mas' Robert
For four years, near about ;
(Jot wounded in threo places,
And starved .ut "Pint Lookout."
I "uotched" tho "roomatism"
A camping in the snow;
But I killed a chance of Yankees
I'd liko to kill some "mV."
V.
Threti hundred thousand Yankees
Are stiff in Southern dust ;
We "got" three hundred thousand
lietore they ''conquered" us.
They died of Southern fever,
And Southoi n steel and shot ;
I wish they were three million,
Instead of what we "got."
The 22d resolution reads as follows :
22. Iu conclusion, we declare to the
people ot our own beloved Common
wealth, as well as to tho people of the
whole Union, that we have met, not to Jo
ment discord, but to heal dimensions, and
to endeavor, to the utmost ot our power,
to bung back our Government to its
ancient purity, and to try to make it
such as il was in fluidity of Washington,
Jefferson, and Jackson.
Tho poet-warrior hits it off much
stronger, to-this (-licet :
VI.
I can't take up my inn-kef,
And fight 'em now no more;
Bui I ain't a going to love 'em,
Now ihats a "mirti i sure."
Ami I don't want no pardon
For wl at I was and am ;
I won't, bu r c mt.ru cted.
And I don't care a d n I
Which express the real views of thoso
who "vitalized" the party the politi
cians or the poet, warrior?
