pleased to learn that part of the "Slater Farm,"
adjoining our borough, has been purchased
by some of our citizens for tho purpose of lay
ing out an addition to thu borough.
The portion of the farm which it Is propos
ed to devoto to this purpose Is beautifully
situated immediately south of the Court House,
and will allord do'.ightful sites for residences.
Tho wnnt of Increased facilities for building
lias long been felt here, and wo are glad that
thero is a hope of Its now being supplied. It
is truo that the number of lots which we un
derstand It Is proposed t" lay out at present, Is
not as largo as we think it should be, yet it
will be n great benefit so far as It goes. Tho
demand for tho lots being so great, they will,
no doubt, be rapidly bought up, and we would
advise persons who desiro lots to bo prompt
in applying to thu owners before they arc all
disposed of. It Is also proposed, we learn, to
burn a largo quantity of brick on tho premis
es, and this, in connection with tho Planing
Mill, Bash and Door Factory, which Is bo
ing erected here, will alford an abundance of
material for building, ut reasonable prices.

Jury, ho was arraigned and found guilty.
The evidonco adduced warranted the
verdict, but wo havo rarely seen so
much popi lar sympathy awarded to a
man guilty of such high misdemeanor,
Itis previous good character, his service
to his country, his talent, weighed hap
pily in his favor and tho Judge in pro
notincing seiitenco nlltfded touching'y
to the necessity which imposed such
severe penalty upon a young man of
previous exemplary habits. He was
sent to tho Western Penitentiary for
two years and left this place on Mon
day last in charge of Sheriff. Johns.

in tho Fogler ease, has refused to allow
a writ ot error to remove it to that tri

perhaps himself and counsel, expected
thu Supreme Court to inteifero. There
is therefore nothing now loft to him but
