1881, at 1 p. m. there will be a mid Range
match, open to all comers. Distance 500
yards. Ten rounds. Weapon any rifle. Mil
itary rifles used, as such, allowed four points.
Entrance fee fifty cents. Re-entries allowed.
Prize, a25 lb. turkey. No Lightning shots
will be allowed, but targets will be assigned
as Bull's eye targets, at which competitors
may practice at any time, provided such prac
tice does not interfere with their presence at
the tiring point.
BURLINGTON ITEMS —Miss Ida Morgan of
Towanda, is visiting friends here.
Mrs. Graney of Binghamton, is spending a
few weeks with her sister, Mrs. J. 11. War
ner.
Miss Addie McKeeby of Binghamton, is
going to spend the winter with Miss W. 11.
D. Green.
Mr. George Morris of Colorado, will spend
the winter with his parents.
Our worthy minister and wife, received a
donation visit from the good people of Bur
lington on the 7th inst. ,
As Mr. Charles Scouten and Mr. Alexander
(of Burlington twp.) were hunting deer in
Sullivan county, Mr. Alexander accidentally
shot Mr. S., mistaking him for a deer. If
last accounts are reliable IK? is improving
slowly.
Mrs. Charles Beardsley of Smithfield met
with quite a serious accident a few days ago.
As she was going home from Burlington, a
pair of horses behind her became unmanage
able, and ran against her wagon, throwing
her out. She received some very severe in
juries, but under the skilful treatment of Dr.
Murdoch, she is recovering.
Mr. Justin Morley, an old resident of Bur
lington, was buried on the 13th, after a short
illness.
One more death at the County house this
week.
Our last socjablc was at Dr. Marshall's on
the 13th inst.
Any one who has had the pleasure of spen
ding an evening with the I)r. and his estima
ble wife, cannot fail to know we had a "good
time." Our next will be at VV. 11. D. Green's

faculty of making every one feel at home with
them, and their generous hospitality is known
both far and near.
The Vanness Brothers, who with their
families,have lately moved in town, seem to
be doing a lively business in the way of reno
vating feather beds. We wish them success.
Our minister, Mr. Troxell was quite sick
last Sabbath. He was unable to fill his ap
pointments.
We notice by the Towanda Journal of a
recent date, that there was another Thomas
"arove in Burlington." Now we know there
are a great many people by the same name:
but why two correspondents from a little
town like this has to both be one name is a
question. It is our impression there is a lit
tle dishonesty about it. ■ Now Brother Thom
as (of the Journal) wc would be glad to
do you any kindness that we could; but we
would ask you the next time vou feel lik
sp< nking a little sarsastic of your neighbors
through the newspaper, not to steal our name
for that paper; as we think any one who
would, steal our name; well, guess vou know
what we think without telling vou here, if
you are good at reading thoughts, it seems to
me you must have read ours the last time
we met vou.
